I just returned from my vacation at the Royal Sands resort. The food quality was okay—neither amazing nor terrible, but edible. The shows were cheesy and disappointing, and I was particularly turned off by the mandatory changing room requirement on Saturdays. If you're considering going there during the summer months, I would advise against it. The beach was overrun with seaweed, creating a bad smell, and my family and I had to go to the sister hotel just to enjoy the beach. According to the concierge, they have been experiencing seaweed problems every summer for the past four years. However, they do have clean water in October and November.
On a positive note, Si Sal Hacienda restaurant was incredible. The service was top-notch, and the quality of the food was amazing. I've had a lot of Mexican food before, and this was by far the best. The sister resort, Royal Cancun, met our needs for snorkeling and enjoying the beach. My two boys dived into the ocean and swam for hours, watching the fish in the clear water.
One downside is that on Saturdays, they do not offer a free shuttle service or kayak rentals, so we had to pay out of pocket for our transportation and couldn't enjoy the boat rides.
The rooms were very clean and spacious for our family of four. We loved the view from our balcony. After we changed to a different room on a higher floor, we enjoyed a spectacular view of the full moon from our room.
Overall, my family and I enjoyed our vacation, bu
