As amazing as this property is, so is the island of Vashon. It is a peaceful tranquil oasis in south Puget Sound just a short ferry ride from Seattle, Tacoma and the Olympic Peninsula. The Fauntleroy ferry in West Seattle and Southworth Ferry on the peninsula come in on the north end of the island. The Tacoma/ Point Defiance ferry lands in Tahlequah at the south end of the island. It is the largest island in Puget Sound south of the Admiralty Inlet, and only has a population of 11,000 people. It is 14 miles long from north to South. Quartermaster Harbor is a marine recovery area located between Vashon and Maury Island. The harbor itself is warmer than the rest of Puget Sound, so although it is cold you can easily swim, float and paddle board in the summer. It is a great place for bird watching. There is a bald eagle that lives near by and visits often, making swooping flights overhead. Due to the high concentration of shellfish and foraging fish in the harbor it is a major wintering area for 35 species of birds. 3000 individual birds winter here annually.
On the east side of Vashon Island is Maury Island, which is connected to Vashon Island through an isthmus (a narrow strip of land). The isthmus was built by residents in 1913. Prior to that time, Maury Island was only connected to Vashon Island periodically during low tide. Vashon island is also referred to as the Vashon-Maury island. Our cabin is on the SW corner of the Maury Island. It is around 20 minutes to Vashon Island downtown and shop, 30 mins to Fauntleroy Ferry and around 15-20 minutes to Tahlequah ferry
The Fauntleroy to Vashon Island ferry leaves West Seattle a few times an hour and more frequently during peak commute times. You can check the Washington Ferry schedule website for time tables. The ferry ride is about 18 minutes each direction and you only pay going to Vashon and the return trip is free. You can drive a vehicle on the ferry or walk-on.
During the summer on weekdays only you can take the Water Taxi directly to Downtown Seattle that lets you off in the Pioneer Square neighborhood. Hours are limited so be sure to check the schedule.

Guests can access to whole house except for the small shed in the yard, the loft above the bedroom by the kitchen, and the closet upstairs where we store cleaners’ supplies. There are 2 street parking. We ask you to limit 2 cars only for guests
Beach access and kayaking only available during summer months
Other things to note
Guests have to park on street then walk down to the house via stairs. There are about 55 steps before you get to the house.
