Getting Around:
Situated in the middle of a nature reserve that stretches along the entire southwestern Portuguese coast, the small fishing town of Porto Covo belongs to the municipality of Sines in the Alentejo Litoral. And the Alentejo landscape proves there is still such a thing as harmony between nature and man. Between the shimmering colors of spring and the ochre tones of autumn, the brilliant white houses stand out, their doors and windows framed in blue or yellow. In the immense expanse rise centuries-old villages, hidden behind their ramparts, waiting to be explored by you.
Porto Covo, with its old village center, the small harbor and the numerous small beaches, is especially popular with bathers during the main holiday season. With the Ilha do Pessegueiro in the south and the waves between the mainland and the island, Porto Covo also has a lot to offer water sports enthusiasts.
In addition to the few places that are directly on the sea and have a beach with a promenade, beach cafes, lifeguards and umbrellas, there are miles and miles of sandy beaches that give the impression that no man has ever been there. From the highway, the IC 4, that goes from Sines to Lagos, small gravel paths go off towards the sea. If you follow these paths, you will reach lonely sandy bays without a soul, even in high summer.
