Come and experience the vacation of a lifetime at "Casa Duccio". Our spacious home sleeps up to eight people extremely comfortably and has ample indoor and outdoor space for all to enjoy. "Casa Duccio" enjoys some of the best views in the area, a private salt water pool, two outdoor showers and all the comforts needed to unplug and take advantage of all that Sardinia has to offer.
The space
"Casa Duccio" is a four bedroom/four bathroom home. Three of the bedrooms ("Buoy", "Diamond" and "Sea-Urchin") are located upstairs and accessible from a common hallway while the fourth bedroom ("Sail") is accessed via a separate, exterior, door. All four bedrooms have brand new ceiling fans and the three upstairs bedrooms also have individual air conditioning units.
Three of the four bedrooms ("Buoy", "Sea-Urchin" and "Sail") have en-suite bathrooms whereas the bathroom for the "Diamond" bedroom is just across the hallway.
All bedrooms and bathrooms, along with the kitchen, have bug screens on every window.
The main indoor living area opens out onto the covered wrap-around terrace by way of two, large, floor to ceiling sliding glass doors. These two large windows, along with a third traditional floor to ceiling glass door that serves as the main entrance to "Casa Duccio", turn the living room into a light and airy space to read a book or relax away from the direct sunlight. Should one choose to eat indoors, there is a large table in the living room that comfortably seats eight.
The kitchen is well equipped to accommodate any of your cooking needs. As far as equipment goes, we have a dishwasher, an electric oven and a gas cooking range. Also in the kitchen is a small washing machine. We air dry our clothes on two clotheslines at the back of the house.
While we love the indoors of "Casa Duccio", we think that you'll agree with us that the outdoors is truly spectacular. Many naps have been taken on the patio chairs shaded from the afternoon sun. The covered wrap-around terrace hosts a second outdoor dining set-up that easily seats eight. During the summer one can comfortably have all three meals outdoor, perhaps needing to pull the white curtains at breakfast time to shield from the morning sun. From the covered portion of the terrance one walks directly out onto the pool area where four sun-beds face the salt water pool. Just off the pool area, nestled in a juniper tree, is one of two outdoor showers while the other one is at the back of the house.
Guest access
At "Casa Duccio" you will have access to the whole house with the exception of one small bedroom which will be locked throughout your stay. On premises there is plenty of parking.
Other things to note
You will need a car to get around the area as most everything will require it. Location wise "Casa Duccio" is roughly 20Km south of Olbia's Airport and 24Km south of Olbia's ferry terminal. Under normal traffic conditions both are roughly a 30 minute drive.
The nearest "town", which is also where you turnoff off of the main north/south road (SS125) to get to "Casa Duccio", is called Monte Petrosu. During the high season you will find a couple of small corner markets, a couple of cafes and a handful of casual family restaurants open. Monte Petrosu is less than 4Km from "Casa Duccio".
For a bigger selection of Supermarkets and bakeries, cheese mongers, fruit and vegetable stands, fish mongers and butcher shops the best bet is Porto San Paolo, about 8Km north of "Casa Duccio" along SS125. Porto San Paolo also has a handful more restaurants and cafes worth visiting.
A second "larger" town accessible via a short drive is San Teodoro, roughly 13km south of "Casa Duccio" along SS125. There too you will find shopping and entertainment in a greater concentration.
While we wouldn't fault anyone for wanting to sit by the pool all the time, there are a number of beautiful beach options from "Casa Duccio". By foot one can go downhill towards the sea and access a handful of very small but pretty spots north and south of our little Cala Ginepro beach. By car there are a dozen or more beaches all within a 20 minute radius all worth visiting. We will mention "La Cinta", "Lu Impostu", "Cala Brandinchi" and "Porto Taverna" as some of the local favorites but would point you to sardinianbeaches .com as a great resource to consult. For context, "Casa Duccio" is located in the "Northeast".
Finally, one last note for your comfort. Part of what makes "Casa Duccio" special is its position atop of a small hill overlooking surrounding areas. As a result there are a limited number of internal and external stairs that one needs to be able to negotiate to move around. Also of note, our garden area has always been kept "natural" which in Sardinia means no grass lawn and lots of "rocky" dry surfaces populated by a number of native plants: corbezzoli, junipers and mirto bushes along with a number of local cacti.
Please also note that the pool area is unfenced and wide open. While this makes for beautiful, unimpeded Mediterranean views, it also presents some risks.
