The Dordogne is a region you can discover in so many ways......
There are a thousand and one "châteaux" in the Perigord, so why not visit one or two during your holiday and let history unfolds. Le Château de Castelnaud -Les Eyzies de Tayac is the one of the most beautiful of the region and le Château de l'Herm- Rouffignac is just a few minutes from your cottage.
You could also explore the caves by boarding a train journey through la Grotte de Rouffignac- also called "la grotte aux mille mamouths" to see the art of hunters in prehistoric time at one of the largest caves of the region.
Take a walk on La Roque Saint Christophe- Peysac le-moustier and discover how men lived on the cliff face 80m high in prehistoric time in this beautifully restored troglodyte village.
For nature and sport lovers, many activities are offered to discover the Perigord in its natural beauty.
From miles of walk and mountain bike trails to horse trecking with Les Cavaliers de la Vézère- Sergeac, cliff climbing, zip trekking the tree tops at Accrobranche- " L'appel de la foret"- Thenon, or going caving; you will definetely find many ways to enjoy yourselves.
Many rivers run through the whole Perigord , the Dordogne of course but also the Vézère just a few miles away. They played a key role in the transportation of goods in the past but are now a place for leisure activities :
Kayaking/canoeing is very popular, let yourself drift through picturest villages on the river Vézère like Les Eyzies, St Leon sur Vésère, La roque Gageac .
Swimming and fishing are also enjoyed along the river.
Then for a relaxing family day out with a picnic, we enjoy going to our local "beach" at the Le lac de Tamnies
or a day at the water park Les étangs du Bos- Saint Chamassy where we all have a splashing day!
Markets: Our traditional sunday morning market can not be missed where you can buy all of your local produces. Every Wednesday evening, during the summer, do not forget your festive and friendly invitation at Rouffignac Night Market where you can eat the best local food and meet the local producers, followed by musical entertainment where you can dance the night away!
Happy Holidays,
