This quaint, rustic hand crafted log cabin on the Salmon River has views of the river and rugged canyon peaks that you will never forget . We are 5 miles upriver from the town of Riggins. The 24 hour sound system is provided by the big river whitewater and Cat Creek tumbling down beside the cabin. Only our guests and the owners and their families have vehicle access to a beautiful calm water swimming beach at the lower end of the property. The occasional rafter or boater have access to the mean high water line. Tie up your jet boat, drift boat or raft on the beach. You can also launch a raft or drift boat from the beach and for larger boats there are launches a mile or two down river with easy water all the way.
The cozy rustic Cat Creek cabin has 2 bedrooms upstairs with a Queen and single bed in the main room, the second room has a Double and single bed. The stairs are narrow and steep and not suitable for some people. The bathroom is located on the main floor, it has a shower tub and stackable washer/Dryer. The kitchen has everything you will need to prepare home cooked meals, you just need to bring the groceries. The open floor plan has a dinning area and a modest living area . No matter where you choose to sit you have a view of the majestic Salmon River canyon. The spacious deck has a propane grill , picnic table along with chairs to sit out and enjoy watching the river flow by and Bald Eagles soar. It is air conditioned for the summer months and a glass front wood stove along with electric heat for the cool months, wood can be purchased in Riggins. The cabin has a StarLink satellite system , the cabin may be isolated, but one should be able to connect to most anything, and a new smart tv is located in the living room, and WiFi calling should allow calls and texts to be made.
We are in the heart of the largest concentration of National Forest public lands in the U.S. and a few miles up the road is the Frank Church Wilderness, the wildest piece of unroaded real estate in the continental U.S. . Our neighborhood is host to deer, elk, big horn sheep, mountain lion, mountain goat, grey wolf, black bear, golden eagle, osprey, bald eagle, salmon, steelhead, cutthroat trout, rainbow trout to name a few.
The Salmon River is the longest undamed river in the lower 48 and is appropriately named. The pole snapping Chinook salmon show up in May-June and the fall steelhead run starts in September and goes until spring. You can hire professional drift and jet boat guides in Riggins or try your luck in the Cat Creek Hole out your front door.
Our back yard abuts public lands and for the the hunter it is not likely you will see anyone else, it is steep and rugged, not recommended for those looking for a stroll in the woods.
The Salmon River is world class whitewater. You can take one of the most exciting 1/2 day whitewater raft trips in the west from Riggins or for an extended adventure, a 5 day trip thru the magnificent River of No Return Wilderness in relative comfort with one of the many professional outfitters.
And don’t forget your surfboard. Just up from our beach is the locally known Freedom Surf Wave. Its an easy paddle across the river and a short walk to the wave. If you plan on using the beach during the summer we recommend a shade device that withstand wind gusts, for those not equipped with a shade device one can be available for a modest fee upon request.
Riggins is located in the heart of Idaho, centrally located between Boise to the south. Spokane WA to the northwest and Missoula MT to the east. All 3 locations offer direct flight to and from several larger cities. All 3 offer unique sightseeing on the drive to Riggins.
