A gorgeous haven for couples and families, it is a wonderful holiday base throughout the year, with coast, countryside, culture & food on the doorstep. Days at the beach, sailing, horseriding, fishing, birdwatching, relaxing galore!
This lovely Victorian fisherman's cottage is in the heart of Southwold in the high street, 350 yards from the beach and 5 yards from Southwold quirky shops and mouth-watering eateries. Thimble cottage is a lovely cosy cottage, full of character and exceptionally comfortable, clean and well-equipped, including the use of unlimited Wi-Fi and super fast broadband.
Thimble cottage is close to an excellent selection of shops, restaurants, characterful pubs, excellent art galleries, a cinema and a theatre. The cottage is also a few paces from one of the most famous Brewery shops in the country – the Adnams shop.
There are excellent restaurants just a couple of minutes walk away - the Sole Bay Fish Co, Sutherland House and the Adnams Cafe are all excellent as well as several others.
As you step out of the cottage door the promenade and beach are a few paces in one direction, and the high street just yards away the other way. Despite the central location, the cottage is delightfully peaceful.
There is also public parking just outside at the back of the cottage.
The cottage has been re-furbished in a light but luxurious style and has been brought into the 21st century, with contemporary kitchen and bathroom and very comfy furnishings. On the ground floor it has a lovely open plan living room - dining space with a well-equipped kitchen and a ground floor guest bedroom. There is a shared sunny courtyard with outside furniture too.
On the first floor it has a master bedroom, which is spacious and peaceful with Victorian sash windows and a solid wood frame double size bed. There is also a guest bedroom, which is furnished with a single bed made of wood frame and superior quality mattress, covered with natural linen. There is also a newly fitted shower room.
Thimble cottage is a lovely fisherman's cottage, full of character and exceptionally comfortable. We provide complimentary toiletries and essential pantry items such as coffee, tea, sugar, biscuits, salt and pepper. We also provide household essentials such as washing up liquid, cling film wrap, foil paper and cleaning products.

Guest access
Public parking for one or two vehicles are available outside Thimble cottage in York road at the back of the cottage. During the holidays parking can be limited. In that case there is free public parking 2 minutes walk in York Road car park - along the Southwold golf course and a play and display car park 5 minutes walk from Thimble cottage in Southwold Pier car park.
Interaction with guests
We live not far from Thimble cottage so generally will be available to welcome guests. On occasions when we are away, arrangements will be made to let you have a key. We will be available by phone or by email during your stay for any questions.
We want your stay to be as enjoyable as possible so please let us know at the time of booking if you have any specific requests as well as through your stay. A welcome pack, including of fresh milk, laid eggs and freshly baked bread is provided for stays longer than three nights. If we are away it's often not possible to provide the welcome pack.
We can stock the fridge with breakfast essentials for late arrivals or arrange flowers, chocolates and champagne for romantic, valentine or anniversary breaks (additional fee applicable). Early check in or late check out available by request (additional fee applicable).

This beautiful period fisherman's cottage is compact in its size but full of charm and character. Please note that as with many cottages built in this era, the steps to the 1st floor are quite steep, care needs to be taken. Please check the photographs before booking.

Southwold is a picturesque seaside market-town (market-days: Monday and Thursday) on the East Suffolk Coast. Southwold is a beautiful English seaside town, set in a time warp and preserved perfectly.
Southwold's main attractions are the working lighthouse, the Adnams brewery (with tours), the awesome pier with bygone slot and amusement machines.
Thimble cottage is set right on Southwold's vibrant high street, where there are a number of interesting quaint shops to browse around plus those catering for all essentials – including... a newsagents; a bakers – selling bread and cakes baked here in the town; a stationers – also selling a good range of postcards with local scenes; a pharmacy; a traditional butchers shop - selling locally- reared meat and hand-made sausages and pies; two bookshops – both stock a range of local maps and guide books; an old-fashioned antique dealer shop (with yarns galore!); two hairdressers; a traditional barber-shop; a florist; a hardware shop (which also sells sacks of logs & kindling for the fire); one bank (Barclays – with 24hr cashpoint) and a building society.
Southwold has its own Museum and two small art galleries – with regular exhibitions by local artists (including some very well-known artists, such as Maggi Hambling).
Southwold offers loads of great places to eat out such as "The Sole Bay Co", "The Sail loft","'Coasters" and the Adnams' Swan and Crown hotels. For fun you can take a blast on the Rib 'Coastal voyager' along the coastline.
If you take a small ride on the ferry you'll arrive to Walberswick, where there is a more relaxed pastime - crabbing from the harbour in Walberswick. (bucket, line and smoked bacon needed).
Southwold also offers loads of walking and cycling opportunities.

Within easy reach of the A12 and serviced by local buses, Southwold is conveniently located for days out to all places of interest in the Suffolk Heritage Coastal area and to other major attractions of East Anglia. For an evening stroll or Sunday walk, Southwold Harbour is just 10 mins walk away and Walberswick is a small ferry ride. From the town, you can take a bus or taxi for the short journey into Halesworth, Walberswick, Dunwich, Aldeburgh and Snape - for an evening at the cinema, theatre or a concert; or a train to the cinema in Halesworth at the Arts Centre. Bike hire available in town.
