The house is in the quiet community of Cerro Mar ten minutes walk from the historic old town of Peniscola, with its castle, shops, bars, restaurants and fishing harbour. Perfect for a couple or a small family, the house is self-contained, making it a secure place for small children to play and adults to relax, with two outdoor terraces and a pretty garden.
The indoor living space consists of an open-plan lounge, dining and kitchen area, fully and comfortably furnished with sofa and armchairs, a dining table and five chairs. The kitchen is generously provided with cooking pans and utensils, and there is plenty of cutlery, crockery, cleaning equipment and tea-towels, so you will not need to buy anything except your groceries. There is a dishwasher, fridge-freezer and electric oven and ceramic hob, plus a microwave. Outside on the terrace is an outdoor barbecue and kitchen area. There are four sun-beds and outdoor dining furniture.
There are two bedrooms, the main one with a king-size bed and two double wardrobes plus generous drawer-space. The smaller bedroom has two single beds. There is also a single put-me-up bed downstairs which fits comfortably into the lounge area, as well as a cot and high-chair; these can be provided upon request. The bathroom has a toilet, sink and large walk-in shower. The washing machine is here too. All the rooms have electric ceiling fans to keep you cool during the hot summer months, and there is gas central heating for the cooler weather. There are store-rooms for beach equipment and extra furniture downstairs. The house is very well-equipped, both inside and out, even down to sunbeds and beach toys you can take to the beach, giving it a relaxing 'home from home' feel. Across the road from the house is a secure car-park where we have a space; this can be accessed with an electronic fob.
There are good views of the castle and the sea, and Playa Sur beach is a five minute walk away at the bottom of the road. So you can have the best of both worlds for your holiday - close enough to the town and the beaches, but far enough away to be able to escape the hustle and bustle. After a day at the beach or visiting the historic castle and old town, you can put your feet up and enjoy a cool drink from the terrace as you watch the fishing boats return to the port after a day's fishing.
Peniscola is usually a quiet little town which surrounds an ancient castle and walled citadel built in the 14th century. The house lies just above the south beach, beyond which is the fishing harbour, where you can see the boats bringing in their catch each afternoon. Or you can enter the old town walls and wander through the maze of cobbled streets, enjoying a drink or something to eat in one of the many cafes and restaurants. There are two blue-flag beaches stretching out on either side of the town, where you will find sun-beds, pedalos and beach sports, but if you prefer somewhere quiet, there is a little sandy cove at the bottom of the road from the house. The town is a very popular beach destination for Spanish and French visitors in particular because of its long sandy beaches, so there are plenty of hotels and restaurants both in the old town and the more modern town centre beyond the castle walls. The annual fiesta takes place during the middle two weeks of September, and this is a busy time, with the spectacular Moros y Cristianos parade at its conclusion.
