Landmarks
The Castle of Parga
On the right side of the city is the castle of Parga, built on the top of a small hill.
Climbing the narrow alleys and the stairs, the visitors gets to the castle given the opportunity to travel to another time. The view of the city beneath its feet and the panorama of the Ionian Sea are a unique experience.
The castle of Parga was built in the 14th century with the help of the Normans in order to protect the Parginians from the constant attacks of pirates, and its final form was taken by the Venetians after the successive catastrophes.
Ali Pasha Castle
Just north of Parga, in the village of Anthousa is located the Ali Pasha castle. Built on a high hill, facing the castle of Parga, with spectacular view and a spectacular sunset of the Ionian Sea.
The castle is very well preserved, almost inaccessible and one can tour easily with the imagination to reshape the lives of people of another age.
It was built by Ali Pasha himself with the help of the Italian engineer Monteleone in order to supervise and besiege Parga.
Acheron River
There are some places where photos and descriptions - as gorgeous as they are - go wrong. One such place of unparalleled beauty is the Acheron Gorge.
A tourist attraction from around the world and famous across the globe for its mystical and mythological burden rooted in ancient mysteries, Acheron is a river of such natural beauty that few places can rival it. We highly recommend a hiking trip in its straits where the intense relief of nature, with vertical rocks exceeding 100 meters high, and its crystalline icy waters will make the experience unforgettable.
For the most adventurous, there are river trekking routes with varying degrees of difficulty and always under the deep shadow offered by the huge plane trees and the rest of the rich flora.
Here you can cross the gates of Hades and the palaces of Persephone and understand why the ancient Greeks chose such a wild and imposing landscape to place the entrance of the underworld.
Agios Sostis Beach & Church
At 7km from Parga or 20 minutes by boat there is Agios Sostis Beach. Desolate and beautiful with turquoise waters and picturesque rocks in strange formations.
There is also the homonymous chapel of Saint Sostis, one of the most peculiar churches of our country. Built on a dome formed by two stacked huge rocks - one of which serves as its protective wall - it looks like one with the landscape, while the impressive entrance from the narrow opening of the giant rocks awe the visitor.
Acherontas Necromanteion
Ancient Necromanteion is located in Mesopotamos Preveza and is approximately 20 km from Lichnos. It was discovered in the excavations of 1958 under the existing cemetery and monastery of Ag. John the 18th. From an architectural point of view, Necromanteion is identified with a magnificent burial monument or mausoleum of the east of the 5th century.
