Falsely Advertised
We booked through VRBO for the unit titled “Dog Friendly gulf view escape near the beach with pool, hot tub, and W/D.” My receipt upon our first payment when we booked also confirmed that our booking was pet friendly. Approximately one week before our trip we received communication from the property manager, Vacasa, with a new list of house rules and what to expect. In this information we learned that our booking was NOT pet friendly. When I contacted both Vacasa and VRBO, I was not provided an adequate solution. VRBO stated that the property manager submits their information. Vacasa blamed VRBO for listing it incorrectly. Vacasa was only able to offer us rebooking a different location that was pet friendly, but we would be responsible for the difference in cost. Vacasa also offered that our cancellation policy would be upheld. Again, we found this out approximately one week before going so of course this would mean only a 50% refund if we did cancel. We started our trip with this sour note that we had to leave our dog behind with a sitter (and now significantly higher cost to our trip) despite us particularly booking this unit based on the description with VRBO and confirmed on my receipt when we paid. I did provide proof to both VRBO and Vacasa when attempting to figure out a solution that our unit was listed as dog friendly and that my receipt confirmed this. Since then the unit name has changed.
The unit itself - positives -
2 large bathrooms. Good set up with the bunks and king size bed. The kitchen had a few plates, bowls, utensils, and some pots and pans. The freezer does have an ice maker. The linens were clean upon arrival. The resort has “3” heated pools, however, they are all open to the outside and only one ever felt heated enough to enjoy.
The negatives - the towels are the low grade, small, barely absorbent, scratchy towels you would use at a low cost motel. I understand that we were at the beach and sand gets everywhere, but the floors had so much sand on it upon our arrival that I questioned whether it was actually cleaned. The splash “indoor” water park/splash pad is not heated (it felt like melted ice cubes and was colder than the ocean) and is not actually indoors. It is covered but is open to air on 2 sides (including the ocean side) so unfortunately, when it was unseasonably chilly out, it was unusable.
Recs to bring - beach chairs, swimmers for kids under 3 (required at pool), own laundry and dishwasher tabs.
