Positives:
- 5 min from CASV
- Good amt of space
- Window A/Cs works well where present
- Wi-Fi works well
- Mattresses in good shape
- Beautiful art work on the walls/tables
Negatives:
- house is ‘charming’ but VERY old…& maintenance appears to be bare minimum
- No A/C in living room or kitchen
- Most windows don’t open. This incl living room and kitchen that lacks A/C. Kitchen has ZERO ventilation.
- Drains in numerous bathroom sinks and showers don’t drain well
- bed pillows smell like other people’s hair
- Main dining table (different from table in listing pics which claims to ‘seat 12 guests’) is a cool piece of art (!) but lacks function due to odd side braces.
- No dishwasher
- No bathroom on first floor (other than apt bathroom)
- Hit or miss re kitchen supplies / amenities.
- The house needs a legit deep clean and SORELY needs basic TLC. Lots of dust (be careful if you have a dust allergy) cob webs, scuff marks, dings, chips, severely worn surfaces, rust, rot, cracks in walls and ceilings, water damage. Numerous burnt out light bulbs. I mention this because the home is described as a ‘LUXURY RETREAT’ and ‘ELEGANT’ in the listing. To be clear, there is NOTHING luxurious or elegant about this rental property. High turnover ‘churn and burn’ income property or frat house or bachelor pad more apt descriptions.
On arrival the home had been only partially cleaned. Floors were quite dirty…as in visible debris, and if I walked through the house in bare feet for an hour my feet would be black with dirt. (Rather than wear my shoes for the entire stay to avoid filthy feet I went to Walmart and bought slippers). The refrigerator hadn’t been wiped out. The cutting board was dirty. The dishes had only been semi hand washed (no dishwasher). The washer would leave debris on clothes and the dryer was out of service (this was a day before we arrived FYI with no solution provided or compensation offered…thanks!!). And throughout the property, many surfaces were dusty/dirty/smudged/not clean. The owner was ‘out of the country’ during our stay. I raised the cleanliness issue with the ‘property manager’, who promptly came to inspect, and returned, but not until the next evening, to swiffer the floors. And he ran the clean cycle on the washer. This improved conditions, but only slightly. He wasn’t able to provide a cleaning crew to do a more thorough job (‘that is something we only provide between guest stays’…but did you, really!?)
