PASTORAL RETREAT IN THE PORTUGUESE COUNTRYSIDE
Welcome to our warm, traditional family farm, Zen Vouga, located on the outskirts of a rural village in Portugal, Zen Vouga, also known as Quinta do Fundo de Vila, sits on just over 3 acres (1 hectare) of pure nature, in a tranquil and idyllic setting. Comprised of 3 private houses for visitors, each rented separately. All together, we sleep up to 14 people for retreats, family gatherings and the like. We welcome everyone, regardless of ethnicity, colour, credence or sexual orientation.
We have the facilities necessary for you to make your own meals and enjoy some relaxing time in Portugal’s laid-back countryside.
Zen Vouga is our family farm dating back to 1744. In keeping with the appreciation for the best of traditional Portugal, we have restored our houses with hewn granite stone, local timber, and wood-fired clay tiles, also paving our pathways in cobblestone. Situated in a region of Portugal known for excellent gastronomy, regional wines, and the largest thermal baths in the country, Zen Vouga is a perfect place to relax and replenish.
At the farm, our guests can view traditional wine-making facilities, an ancient wine press and cellar. We have also preserved a maize crib, barbecue and wooden oven, typical of Portuguese country homes. We have added a games room and a covered pool for the entertainment of our guests.
We have three fully-appointed houses on site for rentals. House #1 and #2 are located on the ground floor. They may be rented separately or all together for larger groups.
House #1 comprises of 3 bedrooms. Bedroom 1 contains a double bed, plus 3 folding single-beds and a double bed sofa. Bedrooms 2 and 3 each contain 2 single beds.
House #2 comprises of 1 bedroom with a double bed and a double bed sofa.
There is one more house in the property that is rented long-term.
We also have a separate house for our own use. This fourth house is not for rent.
We also have a wheelchair ramp for accessibility.
We welcome you warmly and ask that you treat our country home with care and respect. Guest access Nature surrounds us, our views opening onto bucolic vistas into untouched mountainsides. in the valley of the River Vouga that runs through Ribeiradio county, 2.5 hours north of Lisbon, 1.5 hours southeast of Porto by car.
The guests may access all areas of our grounds. For individual rentals of the houses, we ask that you be conscious and respectful of other guests.
Other things to note
We are committed to keeping things simple and sustainable. We ask that you keep your showers short (we have solar panels and limited storage tanks, so please be mindful of the others so they too may have hot showers).
The farm is in a remote village in the countryside, so we don´t have a public sewer system and instead use septic tanks. We ask that you use only wash personal products like soaps and shampoos in the drains and dispose of toilet paper ONLY in the waste bins provided.
Please help us preserve and maintain nature at its best.

The Quinta do Fundo de Vila was founded in 1744, although there are records of a Roman village (of which there are no remains). It has about one hectare of surface and is situated in a quiet and idyllic place.
It is located on the south bank of the Vouga River valley and consists of four dwelling buildings, old wine and olive oil mills as well as wine cellar, canastro, swimming pool and covered porch with wood oven, small kitchen and grill.
This house has three bedrooms, two with two single beds each and one with a double bed, plus two bathrooms with shower, washbasin, toilet and bidet, a large living room with sofa bed and a large American kitchen, with desk and table for twelve people. The house has solar panels for hot water and fireplace, and is fully equipped with washing machine and dishwasher (free of charge but must bring the consumables), large fridge and freezer, microwave, coffee machine (Italian, no shampoo capsules), crockery and cooking utensils as well as sheets, towels, toilet paper (although we encourage the use of the much more hygienic and eco-friendly bidet) and blankets as well as a hairdryer on request.
The farm is located on three terraces, with three terraces adjoining it. It has three mines of water excavated in the stone and serve of a brook that passes right next to it. In front of the land below (large, approximately one hectare) is a small spontaneous forest, one of the most biodiverse in the region.
It also has a nice indoor swimming pool with WC (with ionization to copper and zinc, almost chlorine free), as well as a stone barbecue near the pool area, another on the porch, and a traditional wood-fired oven.
The farm is in a typical Portuguese village, modest and with few inhabitants, where traditional subsistence agriculture abounds. All this is located in a pleasant environment, in direct contact with nature.
Pets are welcome with prior agreement of the owner. They can not sleep or stay in the rooms.
