Just make sure the region has internet and electric light. We stayed two nights and the city had the electricity and internet cut off due to a civil conflict in the region. The hotel has a generator to heat bath water and recharge cell phones and electronic equipment. It's a shame because the region deserves to be...

"FikirandRay is a relatively new hotel and offers comfort and quiet. It is a short walk from a restaurant with great views down the valley. The staff were very nice and helpful. Breakfast was simple but good. You need a guide to get around and bargain but prices tend to be somewhat set. Lalibela is well worth seeing, which you can do in two days, or most pf it in one day."
"This is my favorite spot in all of Ethiopia. It was my second stay at this hotel and proved to be as special as the first. The beds are comfortable and there was plenty of hot water for a shower. The view from the balcony is extraordinary with crows, eagles and hawks flying at by. The morning coffee was delicious and everyone was extremely accommodating and kind. I highly recommend."

I call this luxury. Wifi. A bed (with shiny bedding). A shower and running water. Friendly staff. A TV that I never used. (Like who needs television when life itself is entertaining enough). Transfer currency to Birr, as that is the only currency accepted. It states Complimentary water and transportation....
