We spent four nights at this property in late September - early October 2022.
We drove from Lyon via Villefranche and Beaujeu, and arrived at the anticipated time. The directions provided by the owner were clear and precise, and we had no difficulty in finding the farmhouse. It is located in a small hamlet called Les Jacquets in Haut-Beaujolais, a few kilometres north-west of the village of Monsols in the Deux-Grosnes commune.
The house is delightful - spacious, cosy, warm and comfortable, set in a bucolic location with scenic views across pasture to the hills beyond. Despite having to bring the house back into use by opening all the shutters (a romantic task in itself), its most attractive characteristic is the sense that it is a cherished and much-loved home.
The kitchen-diner is well-lit and well-equipped, and the adjacent shower-room / utility room convenient. The cooking facilities are easily understood and work well.
The living room has a log-burner which cleverly also lights and heats the kitchen-diner. We had no need to use it as the weather was mostly fine and the house warm. The wi-fi worked without a hitch, and the living room entertainment facilities included a DVD player and a range of subscription channels, of which Amazon Prime was a welcome refuge from the entirely Francophone terrestrial television.
Upstairs are two large bedrooms, both with lovely views. The master bedroom is en-suite and enormous, with a suitably sized bed in which we slept very well.
The property is individually gated and we felt very secure, despite the remote location. Also outside is an attractive patio area overlooking a nearby duck pond, also part of the property.
Our only caveat was the confusion over the entry process. Because no access instructions were provided, we expected to be met on arrival, and when no-one was there it caused unnecessary stress and anxiety. We were eventually able to gain access with the assistance of a helpful (next-door) neighbour. It later transpired that because of illness the owner had neglected to provide us with this essential information. We advise future holidaymakers to ensure they have been provided with the location of the key-box and its code before arrival.
