NEWLY BUILT 7 Bedroom Lake Shore Drive Beach Home - Hot Tub and Fire Pit!

Our newly built home is directly on Lake Shore Drive. The house was just completed in July 2019.

It is less than a 0.1 mile walk from our front door to the beach. We have easy and quick access to Sheridan Beach, the nicest beach in the area!

The house has an open layout - the kitchen opens up to the living/dining rooms. The house has 7 bedrooms, 4 baths, and a fully finished walk out basement.

Outside, there is a huge front deck with a grill, and in the back there is a screen porch, connected to a deck with a built in hot tub. The backyard has a fire pit built in to the wooded sand dune.

Bedroom layout is as follows (7 bedrooms):

There is a TV with Xfinity Comcast Cable TV in the living room. There are ROKU smart TVs in 3 bedrooms and the basement. The house is equipped with high speed WIFI.

Outdoor Space:
There is a huge front deck with a grill, large outdoor dining table, lounger chairs and a grill. In the rear of the house, there is a screened in porch that is connected to a deck with a hot tub. The hot tub is open year round. Behind the screen porch and hot tub, there is a fire pit. The back yard behind the fire pit area is a wooded sand dune.

Our stay at this property was deeply disappointing due to extensive maintenance and cleanliness issues. The house was unprepared for guests, with broken lounge and beach chairs, a hazardous piece of wood with a rusty nail exposed, and both grills either broken or unusable due to excessive grease. The sliding glass door to the balcony would not close properly, and the gas stove was missing two knobs, making it difficult to use. The fridge barely cooled, its water filter was nonfunctional, and the bottom drawer was broken.Hygiene was a major concern: an empty large Clorox bottle was left in the dirty hot tub, there were no clean sponges or soap in the kitchen and most bathrooms (five out of six dispensers were filled with water), and we found orange mildew on all shower curtains, cobwebs, dust, and a dirty wet towel in a closet. The shower head and toilet handle in one bathroom were corroded and sticking, and the upstairs primary bedroom toilet required manual flushing with a trash can of water.Comfort was compromised by hard, outdated beds (like 30-year-old box springs, especially in the kidsā€™ room), torn or dirty sheets and comforters, and raggedy towels. The kidsā€™ room was freezing, while upstairs was uncomfortably hot. Broken light switches, fan lamps, and burnt-out bulbs in the yellow bedroom added to the inconvenience, alongside an overflowing trash can upon arrival. This property needs significant repairs and cleaning to meet basic standards. We cannot recommend it.

Good stay and good value with one caveat

The positives are that this was a nice place with plenty of space and beds for our group which was great. It's in a nice location, close to the water/beach and close to things to do in town and in SW Michigan. The beds/layout were great and our group enjoyed our trip. I am giving it 5 stars with the caveat that the owners are VERY cheap regarding things like dishwasher tablets/towels/laundry detergent. We didn't have enough towels for our entire group, which is silly to me, if you advertise sleeping for 10 people there should be enough towels for each person; similarly there were only a handful of laundry/dish detergent tablets. It's not a huge deal, but when you pay several hundred dollars per person to rent a place for a weekend it seems pretty cheap and I probably wouldn't rent this VRBO again because of it.

Good location

House is a great location with proximity to the beach. Despite the 'newly built' in the title, don't expect anything new. The house looks as if it was worn hard and put away wet. Not much attention to cleaning prior to our arrival. We were afraid to use the hot tub as the water smelled like it had not been changed in a long time. Good size for a large group, you just have to let a lot go.

Very accommodating with 12 beds. Nice to be so close to beach with beach chairs provided. Great large kitchen table and table on patio outside to sit everyone. Had some difficulty reaching host and confirming approval to try and get in a little early as some of our group was from out of state.

Great spacious house & within walking distance

We loved staying here - 1 block from the beach, 1/2 mile to splash pad and zoo, & a mile to restaurants. We walked every where! So many beds to choose from and kitchen was large enough for everyone to sit. Quiet and peaceful in the evenings.

Summer Trip

Location was amazing, but no correspondence with the owner after phone calls and messaging. Home was not very clean and they did not provide any dish or hand soap. We thought the inside would be nicer since it said it was brand new.

Somethingā€™s to consider

There are pros and cons to this house. PROS-huge, spacious house. 4 full bathrooms. Great outdoor space. Excellent location for the beach and actives near the harbor of Michigan City. CONS-while surface clean, it is not a clean house. The walls and ceilings have stains. The bathrooms smell dirty and one has mold on the ceiling. The shower curtains are really gross. There are broken things everywhere-the lamp on ceiling in master is sharp shard of glass, ripped drywall in closet, oven door is falling apart, knobs missing from stove, I could go on. I have bruises on my hips from sleeping on the master bed. Thatā€™s how hard it was. Lastly, I do t understand why providing hand soap and toilet paper is too much when the guest is paying $900 per night. It just seems like it should be a given.

Nice house for a large family getaway

Pros: 8 adults and 7 kids stayed here for 4 nights and we had tons of space. Layout of the house is nice... we loved the front deck and back patio. Has a very short, easy walk to the beach. Host was very responsive when I messaged him about some issues with the house. Cons: Could use some maintenance with the bathrooms and some of the appliances, but none of those things were deal breakers. Bring extra towels if you have a big group.

Good for a large group, needs general upkeep. A bit dirty and some things broken like rack in dishwasher, dishwasher handle, a dining room chair, slider screen, moldy freezer in the basement etc. Could have used more towels and some general supplies like Kleenex, large garbage bags etc.. A little fixing up and this could be a great place.

Great House, Great Location!

This place was AMAZING. The house was pristine and accommodated our 10 adults and 7 kids very easily! . The house was spacious and open and had plenty of space on 3 levels with a great kitchen and atmosphere. We relaxed on the screen porch quite a bit and took advantage of the hot tub in the evenings. The location was perfect for us, a 1-2 minute walk to the beach. Colin was extremely quick to respond with any questions. This place is worth the money! I 100% recommend.

My children and grandchildren had a marvelous time here. The house is laid out beautifully. There were 20 of us and no one ever felt crowded, plenty of space to spread out and have your own space. Will definitely rent again.

Disgustingly Dirty and in Great State of Disrepair

This is NOT a ā€œnewly builtā€ home. The description is false or hasnā€™t been changed in years. The home was filthy and in a terrible state of disrepair. Broken cabinets, broken furniture, ripped screen door, broken bathroom fixtures and light fixtures. Dirty blankets and sheets on the bed. Dirty curtains. Almost every wall was dirty. Literally found dead bugs smashed on the wall. Mold on the shower curtains and in the basement bathroom. Shower head hanging off the wall upstairs. Rusty curtain rods. Ant infestation in the kitchen. Moldy coffee grounds in the coffee pot. Mildew on patio furniture. Sand in the freezer! The list goes on and on and on. And I sent numerous messages to the host over several days and did not get a single response to any of them. It was a horrible experience. I could never suggest that anyone stay there until the house receives significant attention both by way of repairs and general cleanliness. The only upside was the proximity to the beach.

Great stay!

Our family of 16: 14 adults and 2 kiddos enjoyed our 4 night stay. Great access to the beach, host was quick and helpful in response. Place was clean, because it is a beach home you definitely deal with sand, not an issue just an FYI.

Our favorite get away

My friend and I have been taking our kids to michigan city and the dunes for the past 4 years. Itā€™s a girl and kiddos trip. This year we rented a house instead of doing our normal hotel. The house was amazing- so big - the kids loved it! Had everything you need but I would say bring extra laundry detergent, paper plates and plastic silverware and extra trash bags. Location was perfect for us. Steep driveway but I have 4 kids and a large suv so it was not a issue for me. We will definitely be back!

Colin was awesome, accommodating, and quick to respond to questions and a new coffee maker! Home was GREAT. The location, layout and amenities checked the boxes! I do agree with other reviews that most the beds are hard and hope they could be changed out at some point. That said , weā€™d probably come back next year.

The property was clean and had everything needed for our large party. Good amount of bedrooms, multiple large seating areas, and plenty of bathrooms. Never felt cramped. Would have been 5 stars, but the oven wasnā€™t working. I notified the host about the issue and received a lackluster response. We were only there for 2 days, so we were able to make due without the oven. If booking, Iā€™d make sure this problem has been rectified.

Perfect house for a large group!

This home was absolutely perfect for our group of 12! The home was clean, cozy, and we each had our own bed. The kitchen and living room layout were open, and we were able to relax and hang out easily. It was well-equipped with towels, dishes, and everything we needed for our stay.
