Big Branch National Wildlife Refuge offers spectacular sunrises, sunsets and even glimpses of Bald Eagles. Lacombe Bayou offers beautiful waterways and a traditional Louisiana experience minutes away from Lake Pontchartrain.

Good base in the bayous for a Louisiana experience!
When we arrived this house (or "camp" as they say) was clean, well-stocked, has a quality about it, and has an awesome view of a slow-moving river. It took a very still night with calm water for a flashlight to penetrate the water enough to see a single alligator swimming. There are mosquitoes around, but don't spoil an evening on the Adirondack chairs looking out over the river. The camp is well built but does vibrate when the wind comes up, might be disconcerting to some, and I guess is a feature of being built up on wood pilings. Take "coastal flood warnings" as relevant - we had one and there was minor flooding of the boat dock and water across the road - not enough to prevent us driving anywhere though. We used this camp as a base to see some of the surrounding Northshore, and drive into New Orleans over the endless Lake Pontchartrain causeway (about 24 miles long). GPS navigation for visitors should be considered essential when driving anywhere in the state. On a fussy note, we would like to have seen proximity lights come on in the parking area under the camp for when we arrived back at night. There is a range of cooking pans, but all have Teflon coatings well known to be toxic, so we had to buy a few ceramic pans at Walmart. And I would like to have seen more EV chargers - both in the rental properties available and in the state in general. This camp is a great base for a New Orleans and Louisiana experience!

I stayed at the property with a friend. We loved the scenic views and the abundant wildlife in the area. Sunrise on the deck with coffee is the only way to go. Television was unnecessary.

Just as great as the first time I stayed here. The host Laura is very responsive and accommodating. A beautiful home and layout. Views are amazing. Will be back in the future!

Water-front property on a nature preserve. What could be better!
The property was even nicer than we hoped - clean, comfortable, well-maintained. The sunrise view over the nature preserve was quite spectacular! Would definitely stay again.

Exactly as pictured!
Lovely views and very clean. My only complaint would be the lack of freshness of the towels - they needed to be washed with softener and dried completely. We did that ourselves. Otherwise, it was great!

Birthday getaway
The home was clean and cozy. Im one that has the horrible habit of falling asleep to the noise of a TV. There were no tvs in the bedrooms, but I used my tablet. Worked out fine. The view of the lake was especially beautiful to wale up to. The restaurants suggested by host were delicious and good customer service. Nearly an hour drive to the city, but this made our getaway that more unique. We had the best of both worlds on this New Orleans vacay. Camp David delivered!

Perfect Bayou Getaway
If you are looking for clean, simple, comfortable getaway this place is it! The property is convenient to Mandeville and Slidell. One of the best restaurants, Sal and Judy's is right around the corner. We enjoyed the access to the water, fishing off the dock and the cute river otter that stopped for a visit.

Bliss on the bayou
Camp David is a wonderful home situated on Bayou Lacombe. It's location puts you within 15 minutes of either Slidell or Pearl River or you can drive to Metairie or New Orleans in about 45 minutes. The home is spacious and extremely comfortable. Our bed was great and every night was restful.

Fantastic Location and Place!

Relaxing time in Lacombe
We stayed here for 10 days and actually enjoyed the house and the area even more than we had anticipated. We enjoyed early morning coffee on the deck watching the sunrise over the bayou. It was beautiful. We also enjoyed the patio area under the house in the shade and usually had a very nice breeze. We played games at the table and used the grill numerous times. The beds were sooo comfortable. I have a bad back and it did great on our mattress. We enjoyed numerous outings to various area attractions but were always happy to return to "our home" in Lacombe. Laura was always available and so helpful with any questions we had. Would highly recommend a stay at Camp David.

Wonderful property and location!
Four adults stayed for a weekend for a small family trip. The house is very comfortable with good sized bedrooms and bathrooms. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking at the house. Laura was very helpful providing links for local information and restaurants. The pictures do not do justice to the views. Both sunrise and sunset can be seen and are amazing. The waterway is peaceful. There’s plenty of fishing/crabing right from the dock. It is just a short drive into New Orleans for a visit if you like. Mandeville and Slidell have close by shopping and restaurants. We would definitely book the house again!!
