The Location: The Bunkhouse sits near the Buffalo River Just 4 miles from Jasper Arkansas, 5 miles from Horseshoe Canyon, and 10 from Ponca’s Buffalo Outdoor Center. The Buffalo River, the first national river is a great swimming hole to us folks around here. Bring your canoe or kayak or rent one 200 yards down the road from where you’re staying. Don’t forget your bike or ATV. This is an occasional working farm with critters of all types so no pets can be brought right now but you are welcome to light the fire pit and listen to the wild four-legged ones. If it’s a ball game you must see then the 42-inch T.V. is for you, but if you would rather do star gazing then this location is a must. It’s like entering a magical realm. The dark skies and expansive landscapes are an ideal setting to witness the full splendor. In 2019 the Buffalo National River was named the state’s first International Dark-Sky Park.
The Space: The Bunkhouse sits on the farm’s property with kitchen/dining, living room, loft bedroom, and bath. But you probably will want to sit outside at picnic table or small patio for that cup of coffee or evening beverage. If you have brought a trailer there is a circular driveway for easy access and huge open space for throwing a ball around. The farmhouse and drive are private space.
New Idea: During a recent visit by our friends from Nebraska to Georgia they were so impressed by the natural beauty all around that they convinced us we should share the Bunkhouse will others who have a love of nature and might want to see and fall in love with the Ozarks. Why not rent out the Bunkhouse, they asked? We agree. So now we’ll leave the lantern on for you-uns!
