Our secluded ohana (guest home) features a grand, unobstructed view of the Pacific Ocean. The gentle breezes and typically sunny days of our small local neighborhood make this charming hideaway perfect for guests seeking tranquility, privacy, and convenience in a comfortable climate. Whales can be seen (and sometimes heard) from your lanai during their visit to our waters. Unaffected by any surrounding light, the night time is equally enchanting as the stars fill the full canopy of sky. However, all conveniences are so close you'll lack for nothing. Located only 1 mile from quaint, authentic Honokaa, all the amenities and services you may need are simply 5 minutes away. Famous attractions such as Waipio Valley, with its black sand beach, are a short drive as are waterfalls, beaches, and all recreational opportunities. If relaxing at home is your preference, you can enjoy the swimming pool that we share with our guests.

Peaceful, ocean-view remote guest house
Rachel’s quaint on-site guest house is a peaceful retreat on the Hamakua Coast, magnificent lanai and ocean view. The vintage house has had some updates and is fairly comfortable and reasonably stocked, wry clean. Rachel was a delight to meet, and very quietly respectful of our property. It is about 5-10 min drive outside of Honoka’a, which is a cute town (although no dinner restaurants!).Rachel’s pool looked very nice, hot tub is not working but we were out exploring most of our days. 15 min drive to Waimea,a beautiful drive where you can find about anything. The night sky view from the guest house was amazing; bring a star chart or app to enhance your viewing! Our only suggestion would be to have a bit more information about the house and maybe the local area provided, but we found our way around just fine. This is a beautiful location on a hillside looking out on the ocean, and a good waypoint for seeing Waimea, Kovals and even Hilo-town and surrounding areas.

Beautiful Peaceful home away
My mother and two brothers live on a plot in a remote part of Hamakua coast, near Honokaa. I visit at least once a year. Rachel, the host/owner, keeps a Ohana unit in wonderful shape, she's responsive and a pleasure to work with. She lives on-site. The day we arrived, so did the remnants of a small hurricane. The island and the property were being drenched. Rachel made it as easy as possible for us to get into the unit dry and safe. The unit itself has an unobstructed view of open Pacific. It is peaceful. At night you see the ships and the fishing boats working their way toward Hilo Town. It's a great place.

Beautiful and peaceful
We had a great stay at Rachel’s place. We were visiting friends in the neighborhood so the location was perfect for us. The house is roomy and everything we needed. The bed was comfy. Beautiful lanai views for morning coffee, meals and sunset. We did not use the pool but it looked nice. I would definitely book this wonderful place again.

Perfect in every way
Absolutely perfect! Rachel is respectful and accommodating. Her property has everything. So much beauty and nature. What a view from the gorgeous lanai. We had beautiful mornings on the lanai. Just perfect. We will be back!

Very nice unit with a great ocean view
The property sits at the end of a lane detached from the host’s home. The elevation is about 400’ above sea level in a remote area near the north shore. There is a small town within a 5 min drive. The unit has a nice large lanai with a view towards the ocean. The unit is well lived in with a nice kitchen, bath, bedroom and a small sitting area. The dining table is on the lanai. The host is very friendly and their day to day living does not interfere with the privacy of this rental unit. The unit itself could use some updates and a refresh, but it was comfortable. The king size bed is a nice feature, and although the pillow top cover helped, a new mattress would be a nice update. The evenings on the covered and partially enclosed lanai were quiet and very relaxing. The location is perhaps a bit more remote than we anticipated, but we enjoyed our stay. A couple of things the owners could address are; the oven door does not close properly so when we used it, the whole unit heats up, and the blinds are all in poor / worn shape and it is very hard to open (and close) the windows as is requested by the hosts when you cannot lift the blinds.

Magnificent Views!
The view of the vast Pacific Ocean is the gem of this property. Clean, classy and convenient. Honokaa is a short 2 mile drive and has everything you need. Tex’s malasadas are amazing!

Incredible ocean view from lanai!
Rachel is a very helpful host who respects your privacy. The lanai was spectacular - recommend buying an air mattress in Waimea and sleeping out on the lanai. Honokaa is a sweet town with some old Hawaiian buildings worth exploring.

Beautiful Retreat
Rachel’s guest home was in the perfect location for us. It is out in the country, with nothing obscuring your view of the ocean. You cannot reach the ocean from this location because you are high above it. But the views are outstanding, sun rise, moon rise and set, and stars. Home is very clean, well furnished and comfortable bed. Rachel was a great host; she provided good suggestions for nearby hiking and sightseeing and fresh fruit from her trees, but never intruded. Would definitely stay again.

The unit is at the end of a quiet street one exit south of Honoka'a, off of Hwy 19. Nights are quiet with no light noise, no traffic noise. You do hear (and see) the neighboring cattle and horses. You do hear a chorus of birds; finches, morning doves. The view of the vast pacific is unencumbered. The 1 bed 1 bath unit has a large lanai with a large table with chairs and 2 lounge chairs. It's southern half is enclosed in sliding glass panels to prevent wind driven rain from interfering with ocean gazing or star gawking. It has a clean, well equipped kitchen. The bed is comfortable and the bedroom is generously sized. The bathroom is finished in tile and it is very nice. One caution- The shower/soaking bath combo has an aggressive step in and out requiring you step high. There is a sturdy well placed grab bar to help. This was a fantastic unit to which I'd happily return.

Excellent host
First off, loved the property. The view is amazing and the layout is nice. The breeze that runs through the windows keeps it cool. Rachel is an above and beyond host. She keeps the little things on hand that you would usually not think of when you’re on vacation. Stuff like coffee filters, dish soap, etc. She made us feel the true spirit of aloha and like we were part of her ohana. I would stay with her again anytime.

Peaceful - Great Views!
Very clean property - amazing views of the ocean (and sometimes cows). Geckos on the porch, lovely winds starting in mid morning, and relatively cool at night. The pool was very appealing, but we only went in it once (too busy doing other stuff). Rachel was very responsive, although we didn't end up needing anything. The unit had everything we needed - while we didn't cook we did eat in a couple of nights. The icemaker in the fridge was great, and there is a water filter container in the fridge as well. There are beach chairs, a cooler, and some other beach equipment. We may be a bit spoiled because we just got a new mattress at home, but the bed did have some peaks and valleys. There are multiple fans (we only used the ceiling fan) and it is extremely quiet! There is certainly lots to see in the area, with easy access to Waimea and north to Hawi. The Waip'o Valley lookout is also close, and there are several cool shops in Honoka'a. Rachel's place was a wonderful way to start our trip to the Big Island and we would certainly stay again.

Absolutely Delightful
This is a wonderfully quiet and private free standing unit (no shared walks with owner's house that is really out of sight behind the unit) tucked away about twenty minutes from the town of Waimea and about 5 minutes for the super cute historic town of Honokaa. Rachel provided everything we needed for our weeklong stay. Clean and cozy with amazing views of the ocean from a lanai that was designed to allow for fresh air and unobstructed views yet very protected from the wind (which was blowing quite a bit during our trip). It is on the wetter side of the island, but we still had plenty of sunshine. We didn't use the pool but it looked wonderful...it was a bit cold on our trip in February. I hope to be able to book a second visit sometime.
