Perched up on timbers, this cozy little A-frame offers a perfect blend of urban loft and rustic cabin living. Offering a bird’s eye view of the harbor and famous lighthouse from both the deck and the loft bedroom, the Birdhouse is a charming home base for your Grand Marais adventure.
The cabin is nestled in an alley just a few steps from downtown restaurants, shops, harbor, breweries, coffee shop, North House Folk School, Art Colony and much more.
The space
The centerpiece of the Birdhouse is the contemporary burgundy tub, perfect for sipping your morning coffee. Note that there is no shower.
The wall of south-facing windows lets the natural light pour in, perfect on a cold winter day! In the summer, the south-facing deck is there for you to enjoy your happy hour drinks before you hit the night scene.
The interior finish features a Nepali theme with porter baskets, a yak wool blanket and a large singing bowl as the sink. The warmth of an all-wood finish is created by the birch floors, wood-paneled walls, and large loft timbers. The abstract-shaped windows bring a nice modern balance.
The kitchen is fully stocked. Mökki offers a bar fridge, propane stovetop, kettle, drip cone coffee maker, pots, pans, dishes, and spices. Note that there is a 4 slice toaster oven in lieu of a conventional oven.
The sound of the harbor seagulls is sure to make you feel like you are on an oceanfront stay.
Guest access
Guests have entire space to themselves.
Other things to note
Your adventure begins by walking 25yards down a laneway from the on-street parking, making your way up one flight of stairs to this quaint little abode. After a heavy snowfall, the alleyway is not driveable.
Also, be aware that there are steep ladder steps to the upstairs bedroom loft. The A-frame design means the loft bed is near the floor.
We recommend you pack light! The Birdhouse is tiny, at 230sqft; it sure is cozy.
