This little piece of a paradise was a dream of Leigh’s for many years and we are so happy to share it with you. Please know it is special to us and we hope you will treat it like your home.
If you are someone who likes to know a little history about the property we are happy to share it with you. Dawn Hill Ranch was built by Gerald “Jerry” Baldwin, an English American businessman, who along with Gordon Bowker and Zev Siegl founded Starbucks in Seattle in 1971. Mr. Baldwin learned the coffee trade from Alfred Peet, whose store Peet’s Coffee & Tea was the inspiration for Starbucks.
Mr. Baldwin planted the Zinfandel grapes (1/2 acre) on the property in 1978 and the vineyard is dry farmed organically and yields about 80 cases of Zinfandel each year. In 2011, the 2007 Dawn Hill Ranch Zinfandel won the Gold Medal at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition and as you can imagine sold out shortly thereafter. The 2007 DHR Zinfandel was described as a medium to full-bodied wine with concentrated dark cassis and plum. It was aged in barrel for thirty months.
In addition to the vineyard, there are also about 85 Olive trees on the property that yield about fifty gallons of olive oil each year. Its fun to sample the wine and olive oil and we may be biased but they both are quite good! There is also a fruit orchard on the property adjacent to the lower patio. There are persimmons, figs, pomegranates and red pears for the taking come summer.
Mr Baldwin and his wife, sold the property several years ago to another family and we bought it from them in 2014.
We want you enjoy your stay here and we’ve left lots of information to make your visit as stress free as possible. Below is a thorough description of the two-level home.
