Remote Mountain Home
Great place to vacation! Cabin was clean and spacious! The owner texted to wnsure our safe arrival and check on our needs. The deiveway was a bit rough, but we managed fine. Lots to do and see!

Nice getaway
The home was cozy and as one other guest said, it is like staying at grandma's house. We specifically came for views of the mountain, but due to the time of season we came, our views were obstructed by the trees. Partly my fault for not realizing that, but would like to have seen "seasonal views," in the description. Loved, loved the creek beside it and the sound of that water. If we had had views, it would have been spectacular.

Great quiet getaway in a convenient mountain location!
We enjoyed our stay at Mott's Mountain Laurel. It was well equipped with everything we needed. The kitchen had plenty of cooking utensils, and there was plenty of space for our group. It was charming and reminded me of staying at someone's grandmother's house. There were family pictures on the wall and plenty of seating area.

Spacious, yet very cozy! This was my second stay at this home, for good reason, it is very comfortable and cozy and well supplied. Also the location is fantastic with a beautiful mountain view and convenient to Asheville and Hendersonville. Hillary is a great host!

A Beautiful Retreat
What a beautiful weekend we had! This mountain retreat was just what our family needed to reconnect, with plenty of space for napping, and mealtimes and games around the table. This is truly an old family home: warm, comfortable, inviting, and the view from the porch is impossible to capture with a camera! The hostess was available and easy to communicate with—we wanted to add our photos to her picture wall! We never took advantage of nearby restaurants or shops—we just stayed “home” and enjoyed the peace and natural setting, although the young adults did have fun mining for gems. We loved every minute of our stay here, and really enjoyed our surprise “welcome” gift! Thank you, Hillary, for sharing this treasure with us! It’s at the top of our “favorites” list!

Lovely house
Our family stayed 4 nights and we loved it. Very clean, great location, comfortable, and we felt that the Mott’s family not only shared their home but also their memories. We have never stayed in a VRBO that was so well equipped, they thought about every single detail, the house had pet supplies, including pet food, treats, toys, plenty of cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towel, towels, ziplock bags, all kitchen utensils that you could think of. We were welcomed with a s’mores kit, a soap/toothpaste/toothbrush/shampoo/conditioner/razor and shaving cream basket, and tasty wine.

JUST PERFECT
What a great home to get away from it all, yet remain close to everything you need. The home was quiet, clean, roomy, and well stocked. Asheville, Biltmore House, Hendersonville, Chimney Rock, and Lake Lure we’re short excursions from the location. The Owners were great to communicate with and quick to reply to our questions. This was our first VRBO rental and because of this experience, we will definitely be using the service in the future. GO NOLES!

Charming home.
The house is very charming and a real home. Everything needed is there- in the kitchen, bedrooms etc; there’s even a wide variety of board games. It’s a treat to enjoy the tranquility and the view outside, plus the delightful rocking chairs. The hosts are very gracious, easy to talk to and we are grateful for a wonderful stay. We hope we can visit again!

Fabulous mountain holiday retreat
The property was very well maintained, super cozy and if you like to cook has all the supplies you need. The area is stunning. The host was communicative as soon as the property was booked and sent helpful information ahead of time for us to help plan the stay and then to ensure we made it there safely, as well as a generous welcome gift! The mini van struggled to make it up the driveway so just be careful. The only item missing from the online pictures was the telescope, sadly was not there; but the big green egg was an amazing touch for our turkey! Super comfy beds which honestly is one of the things that sold me in the reviews, as so many rentals have great amenities with terrible mattresses. Not the case here, you will sleep great!! We also loved the history displayed and the antique items throughout. We had a wonderful time and highly recommend.

A real charm and perfectly comfy
We stayed 4 nights. Everything was perfect! Covered porch with rocking chairs, stone fireplace, kitchen is more than fully equipped. Rustic location in the trees, a short walk to a path along the creek. This was an excellent choice for our family time.

Everything you need for your stay, and the perfect location! The views from the porch were awesome as we used the Big Green Egg to grill. Just 8 miles to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. Would definitely stay here again.

Great stay!
Great house, very clean and organized with everything one could need. Well stocked. Good communication with owners. Lovely area with lots of nature and enjoyed chasing fireflies and making bonfires. Internet was spotty. We mostly used our att hot spot and Verizon lte both worked fine in the house & area. Also we appreciated the wine and s’mores kit upon arrival! Nice touch! :) would def stay again! Thx u!

Wonderful Mountain Home
The location was awesome, a short drive to everything that we wanted to do. The home was comfortable, I loved the the porch with the rocking chairs, very peaceful. Tranquil and peaceful location
This beautiful property has satellite t.v. and WiFi but we barely used them. We enjoyed the front porch with a beautiful Mountain View. There’s a wonderful mountain stream running along side the house where the kids explored and played. It’s a great location that’s close to the Biltmore estate as well as Chimney Rock State park. We really enjoyed the house, the area, and the peace. We spent evenings around the fire pit making hotdogs and s’mores. The host provides tons of games for game night. We honestly didn’t want to leave.

Lowkey, relaxing getaway for families
Our family of 4 had a lovely long weekend getaway here. Our 4 and 5 year olds had so much fun traipsing through the creek in search of salamanders and other treasures. The house itself had all the conveniences we needed - plenty of kitchen equipment, nice towels and linens, plugs for our electronics, and new toiletries and soaps. The bottle of wine and s'mores baskets were also nice touches! We had a hiccup or two during our stay (the dryer went out), but the owners were immediately responsive and made the situation right immediately. I wouldn't say this house has the most breathtaking mountain view, but it was very comfortable, had a fun creek on site, was within minutes from beautiful hiking trails, and was close Lake Lure. We will be back!

Perfect for families, great location
We booked this mountain house on short notice and are so glad we did. The place had everything our family of four needed in terms of comfort and convenience. The owner is fantastic, very responsive and welcoming. The location of the property between Asheville and Lake Lure make it a very attractive spot. I sincerely hope the owners continue to rent this place out, because our family would love to make it a regular part of our vacation routine.

Relax and Enjoy!
As you drive up to this colorful home, you will find it’s nestled amongst greenery. The home was very clean and equipped with everything from spices to dog supplies to everything you may have in your own home. The deck was a great place to sit at and spend time with family. There were games for the young and old alike. Hillary, the owner, was wonderful. At arrival, she had a lovely basket of s’mores, a basket of amenities, and a bottle of wine waiting for us. Thank you for everything. You made our time there feel special.

Perfect for Families - Comfortable accommodations; Central location
I am always constrained for time, and must keep my review brief--it will not do justice to how perfect the house was for families such as mine or how hospitable the hosts were. Centrally located for what we did over the week (Sliding Rock in Pisgah National Forest; exploring Asheville; biking near and eating in Black Mountain). Ample space and comfortable beds. A flowing creek full of crayfish and salamanders (that one can easily hear from the porch, for those choosing less interaction with nature). All the kitchen tools you need to cook every meal (if you wish). Route back (from your daily trip) passes by Bar-B-Que and Ingles Market. Internet speed is ample enough to consume multimedia concurrently from multiple streaming devices (e.g. Amazon Fire TV; iPads). Video conferencing for work (including presenting from my screen) was sufficient (and improved if the family stopped streaming during the calls). Cell phone service did not work for AT&T or T-Mobile, but if you utilize the Wi-Fi calling option on your phone, you can send/receive calls and text messages. Upload speeds (as expected for a rural location) is slow. We'll be back!

Wonderful stay!
We absolutely loved our week spent at this property. The house was extremely clean and beautifully decorated. We truly appreciated the welcome basket left by the owner. The porch is absolutely amazing to enjoy the view of the mountains and the sound of the stream on the property. We spent mornings sipping coffee on the porch! The owner, Hillary, and her family are absolutely wonderful and very responsive to any questions.. They truly treat you like family!

The place was very cute and clean
While we enjoyed it we were disappointed in the views. The power lines were not described in the post. The steam was nice but couldn’t see it was disappointing. The pond was very disappointing. At night we couldn’t sit on the porch due to mosquitoes so it would have been better if screened in.

Catherine, Thank you for your feedback. We, too hope that Henderson county would commit to underground lines but it’s great to have our modern conveniences also. Although we’ve never had any issues until now, I will change the wording to include this. Outside, we have had black ants at certain times but have not experienced mosquito issues. I will call our Terminex man on Monday to see what he recommends. We adore, as do most, the incredible beauty and wonderful location of Bearwallow Mountain & Gerton .but never want our guests to feel misled or displeased. From sending brochures after booking to fresh flowers upon arrival ... we try to make you feel special and we are disappointed that we did not succeed. Perfect family getaway location.
Loved our stay in this beautiful mountain cabin. We are a family of 5 and everyone was very comfortable. Evenings are beautiful and cool on the porch. We loved the privacy, and the Mountain View’s. Listening to the brook stream was extra special. This cabin is dog friendly and we absolutely loved being able to bring our fur baby. The owner is incredibly responsive and genuinely cares about her guests having a positive experience. We had an issue with our pup while away and she was able to steer us to a local vet. Additionally, She texted Us to check on how he was feeling. Lovely visit all around. We would stay again and we highly recommend this property!

Wonderful house, wonderful location, wonderful hosts! I just concluded a weeklong stay at Motts Mountain Laurel And I couldn’t be more pleased. In these days of COVID-19, the cleanliness and freshness of the house was very much appreciated. But most important to me was how homey and warm and comfortable the house is. The setting and the view are beautiful… Gorgeous Mountain View, great wildlife (many roaming wild turkeys, many bunny rabbits, hummingbirds at the deck, and one bear). Gerton is a really good “hub” for everything I go to western NC for! Thank you Todd and Hillary!

We absolutely loved our stay. We instantly felt at home and were very comfortable.
We loved this beautiful mountain location. Everything made you feel at home and peaceful, from the fluttering of the many hummingbirds to the star-filled skies. We spent every night on the spacious front porch and fell instantly asleep in the comfy beds. It has all you need to make your stay wonderful. The towns people of Gerton were so friendly. We just happened upon their community center during a town festival. They invited us in and welcomed us like we were good neighbors. We had dinner and chatted. They gave great advice of hiking trails and the things to do in the area. What a pleasant time! Hillary (owner) treats you like family and wants to make sure you are enjoying your stay. She was wonderful. The home is very clean and has everything you need. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Great mountain cabin
This cabin is exactly as pictured, and in person is fantastic! The property owner was kind and quickly answered all questions and concerns we had. There was a welcome basket for us when we arrived and another basket full of all the pamphlets you might need to have an excellent mountain adventure. It is positioned up about 15min of the twistyiest windiest roads I have ever driven, that made me nervous the first time up, but became pretty enjoyable to drive by the end of our trip. It was a beautiful 20 min drive to Chimney Rock/ Lake Lure area and in the other direction a 30 min country drive down to Biltmore Village/ downtown Ashville. We thoroughly enjoyed our scenic stay at this cabin, you are literally surrounded by mountain views, we would recommend this place to anyone!

Nice cabin
Rustic appeal and everything you needed at great price. We have stayed in this area before and it was nice to stay closer to Asheville so we could make some excursions there in about 30 min. Owners were easy to work with. Only con was website stated it slept 10, but really only 8. There was no sleeper sofa and the 2 queen beds seemed like full sized with the room they were in felt like the floor was caving in. So it felt like you were rolling to to the middle of the room while you were sleeping.

Thank you Earl! We have a crew up there checking out and repairing the issue. We are going to completely redo the back bedroom flooring and have the joists reinforced. The house will be out of commission for a month but we are SO grateful you brought this to our attention! We enjoyed having your family as our guests!!

Evacuating Hurricane Irma- the owners were very quick to respond! Great Cabin with a beautiful view!
We had to evacuate Hurricane Irma and the owners were very accommodating with this last minute found gem. Quick communication (even though it turns out they also had to evacuate at the last minute.) The owner had many suggestions for nearby things to do, where we could find groceries, etc. Our family had a blast making a mini-vacation out of the evacuation while the weather cooperated: checking out the brook that runs alongside the cabin, apple picking and corn maze in a nearby town, hiking, etc. Well stocked cabin allowed for home cooking, football watching and game nights. There was even a little cupboard of pet things for anything we might have forgotten for our fur baby. When the storm made its way to the mountains and downed trees caused the power to go out (and therefore the well water) the cabin's caretaker was kind enough to bring fire logs, water, flashlights, and glow sticks for our children to get us through the night in the dark and she and her husband even cleared the large fallen tree branches in the road leading to the cabin early in the morning so that we could get out. She even told us the easiest way to get off the mountain because our original way in was blocked due to downed trees. Just be prepared for the mountain roads. The cabin itself is on a road that is unpaved and in the dark the first night it was a little unnerving. But once we found the place, this was no longer a problem. We felt very at home and had a great couple of days! We were able to take what could have been a weekend full of scary situations and bad memories for our children and turn it into good, family time where memories were made that will last a lifetime. I'm eternally thankful!
