On Hutchinson Island. Large upstairs suite, private pool, beach is minutes away.

The Mermaid House is located on the northern tip of South Hutchison Island and is 7 minute walk to the beach.

Your suite has a great swing where you can relax and listen to the ocean sing. During a full moon the swing is in a perfect position and elevation to watch the moon come out of the ocean!! This unique styled property has a large, private, saltwater pool with a jacuzzi. When you are done swimming our tiki hut, with its own bar area, is next to the pool and a great place to eat, talk and enjoy a cocktail or two.

The Mermaid House has a very comfy king bed, a fully equipped kitchen, WiFi, TV, beach chairs, pool toys, and a barbecues grill just to mention a few. Please see complete list of our amenities and encourage you to review our reviews.

What's nearby: The northern tip of South Hutchison Island is where the Indian River flows into the Atlantic Ocean. Therefore you have the choice of fishing or swimming from the shores of the Indian River, which has it own white sand beach, or dropping your fishing line into the Atlantic Ocean. Literally, you can have one fishing line in the Indian River and 8 feet away your other fishing line is in the Atlantic Ocean. Needless to say we have great fishing and outstanding seafood.

Speaking of food, we are known for our boutique restaurants ranging from Latin, French, Fusion, Asian, Seafood to Food Trucks offering mouth watering barbecue to Creole delights. We have several boutique taverns, where you can enjoy a happy hour with gourmet bites while listening to live music and of course great water views.

Within a 4 mile radius we have fishing charters available, jet ski rentals, small sailing boat rentals and lessons are also available. Currently there is a free Uber service offered by City of Fort Pierce and the Mermaid House is in their area of service. In your suite you will find additional information covering the topics above.

If you are a walker this is the place. You can walk either along the beach or the main strip where many of us like to walk in the morning or evening hours. If you choose the main strip you will pass , the Florida Oceanic Museum, the St Lucie County Aquarium, the National Navy Seals Museum, the Smithsonian Marine Station on the Island, The Indian River beach park and a causeway overpass bridge that offers an excellent view of the Indian River.

Mermaid House
The place was amazing! The host was fabulous! Check in process was rated a 4/5 bc I didn’t know how it all went, as this is my first time renting and I was panicking and was trying to contact the host and VRBO about access to the property. It had been a long 16 hour drive and I was ‘antsy’. But once on the property-EVERYTHING was wonderful.

Excellent Stay
Just what we wanted. Very roomy and great layout. Excellent communication and experience for first time using VRBO. Nice outdoor area, wish we utilized more. Close and easy access to public beach, just have to cross A1A and a block up the road.

Location, Location, Location.
Prime location for a restful beach getaway. Apartment is across the street from the beach and also includes a pool when you want a private dip. Equipped with all you need for the beach and for it to feel like home. Loved my stay and I’m already planning my next visit. Kevin was a great host. You won’t regret choosing the Mermaid house.

Nice first visit to Fort Pierce
This was our first time on the island. The location to the beach was fantastic. Be aware this is the unit on the second floor so you have to use the steps all the time. The first floor is not part of this home. There really isn’ta whole lot around the island to “do” but all the restaurants were great with no waiting. Not a big deal, we only go for the beaches which were nearly empty and very clean. The pool was a good size for the 4 of us. Generally it was a very clean place though not very “beachy” if you want that vibe (considering it’s called the “mermaid house”) . I do wish the main bedroom had a TV and that it had a washer and dryer (our fault for not paying attention to that detail) also, can they should consider stocking the kitchen with more kid, friendly, durable dishware. We like using plastic cups and plates if we are taking lunch down by the pool or whatever. It could be stocked with a few more items. Overall, nice place I would encourage them to do a little maintenance, updates, painting, around the property and it could be five stars include all around! Good stay though

Great week!
We had a blast swimming in the pool and going to the beach to enjoy the ocean. The rental was perfect for our needs and allowed us to relax and enjoy a week in the sun. We'd definitely rent here again! Fort Pierce had everything we needed for an amazing getaway - restaurants, shopping, beaches, sightseeing, etc.

The property was very clean and met our expectations. We didn’t cook so can’t comment on the kitchen accommodations. Kevin was very accommodating with any needs we had. The pool area was very beautiful but the water was very cool. For sure we would stay again

Nice Place
This was our third year doing a VRBO rental in Florida but our first time in Fort Pierce. For our family, there were pros and cons to the property. Pros: Beach access was easy and convenient. We enjoyed both jumping waves at the ocean beach and jet skiing on the calm inlet Size and space in the house and at the pool were perfect for our family of 4 Condo was clean Kevin was very responsive and helpful Plenty of local seafood restaurants nearby Cons: -When we were booking on VRBO we selected hot tub as a requirement and this listing came up. Kevin mentioned a jacuzzi in the description as well. The jacuzzi was very cold just like the pool. We were looking forward to putting the kids to bed and walking downstairs to our private hot tub, so this was disappointing and we felt misleading. -The decor especially in the bedrooms was lacking. Could at least use some lamps. -The dishes / kitchenware was sparse. We wished we would have brought some disposable silverware, plates and bowls because there were like 3 of each. No baking / pizza pan. -Fort Pierce in general is more of a retirement community and less of a family getaway in our opinion.

Very nice apartment near the beach
We stayed at Mermaid House for 2 weeks in Feb. 2023. It was a lovely stay, and we would visit again. The house is very close to the beach; you walk about two blocks, cross Rt. A1A, and a park with an entrance to the beach is right there. The property has a salt water pool, adjacent to a small tiki bar. WiFi reached out to the bar, and one of us worked there with our son when he joined us for a few days, with dips in the pool when we got tired of looking at computer screens! The apartment is very clean and well stocked— towels, beach towels, beach chairs, etc— and Kevin is a super-responsive host. The living room is very comfortable and has a big TV. I would mention one thing: the house the apartment is in is right on Rt. A1A, which is a busy route. The front bedroom, even with well-sealed windows, gets traffic noise. Now, we’re very sensitive to noise, and we slept in the back room, which is very quiet. This may not bother a lot of people. Our adult son had no problem whatsoever. Thank you, Kevin!

Nice property, a very short walk to the public beaches. Restraunts and bars are within 1.5 miles, along the picturesque Fort Pierce Inlet. Other beaches abound to the north and south, and are a short drive from the Mermaid House. The kitchen is adequately equiped. Internet was fast and reliable. We wish the hot tub worked, but all in all we would stay here again. Kevin was a pleasure to work with as well.

Mermaid House-Ft Pierce
The location of this property was perfect for the two of us, over 65. We really enjoyed walking to the Pickleball courts at Jaycee Park. The walk to the beach was short and easy. The restaurants, all a very short drive away were fun, good food and seemed to always have music when we were there. We really enjoyed relaxing on the swings at the house. We didn’t really use the pool since it is not heated, but enjoyed relaxing by it. Really enjoyed this area of Hutchinson Island, very quiet and relaxing!

We loved staying at the Mermaid House in Fort Pierce!
Kevin was brilliant, attentive and responsive. Plus a really nice guy! The amenities are great, full kitchen, two bedrooms, 3 beds, plenty of room. The lounge has really comfy couches. Not far from downtown and a 100 steps to the beach. Well done Kevin, highly recommend the place!
