Welcome to Pomo Cove. Located on a breathtaking stretch of the Mendocino Coast near south Fort Bragg, your stay here will be unforgettable. With many amenities provided by the natural setting and the comfort of a modern, updated home, that’s just waiting for your visit to this special place.
The sounds you’ll hear are those of the ocean waves lapping against the rocks below, and the myriad of shore birds, and migrating birds flying by. As you look out on the horizon, you might be fortunate enough to see whales spouting. Or fishing boats returning to the mouth of the Noyo River to head back to the harbor.
While at times, it might seem that you are in your own coastal retreat away from it all, you can take a 10 minute stroll to Pomo Bluffs Park to join others as they delight in the barking sea lions and observe other marine life. The stores, restaurants and harbor of Ft. Bragg are an easy 15 minute walk or 5 minute drive. The Haul Road bike and walking path along the ocean is located nearby. And should you desire to put your toes in the sand, or put out a blanket and picnic in a sandy cove, you can venture out on a 10 minute walk to Hare Creek beach and enjoy the beautiful sunsets there as well.
The home is situated at the end of a tranquil drive near Pomo Bluffs Park and the mouth of the Noyo River as it empties to the ocean, in one of the premier areas of Ft. Bragg, known as the Todd subdivision. The homes in this subdivision sit on 1 to 2 acres, many on ocean bluffs, to enjoy the views and the wildlife that visit daily.
The home at Pomo Cove is a modest, natural redwood cabin from the outside that was built in the 1950’s by a local family as the first lot chosen and built when the Todd subdivision transitioned from the Todd private campground. It has been enjoyed as a multi-generation family retreat, until 2021, when it was purchased by a new owner who saw the potential to update the inside of this one-of-a-kind home and provide a coastal retreat for those who value the opportunity to spend time by the ocean in comfort.
When you arrive at Pomo Cove, you will quickly see why this was the first lot chosen, as the views are mesmerizing, and the tranquility and privacy of the location makes one feel that they have this section of the coast all to themselves. With the weather changing constantly, from fog rolling in, mist forming, rain, and then the sun breaking through, you will be wondering “will we see the sunset on the ocean horizon this evening from our deck?”
You can choose to stay outside, enjoying the fire ring, lounging in the adirondack chairs or swing, gazing out on the ever-changing ocean, or step inside to enjoy the amenities of an updated modern home. But don’t worry - you won’t be leaving those ocean views behind. Open the top of the dutch door, to let in the views and the ocean breezes. This home was remodeled with those views front and center - new, expanded windows, a kitchen sink facing the ocean, along with the dining table, and then continuing in to the living room. The main bedroom suite also faces the ocean and is warmed by the sun's rays in late afternoon. An easy chair sits near the windows for your reading comfort as you gaze out the window. As you stroll in to the main bath, you’ll see that the walk-in shower, as well as the sink vanity, have an ocean view from the main window. As you get ready in the morning, you can guess what type of weather you might experience on the coast that day.
Don't miss the forest of Monterey Pine trees and Monterey Cypress behind the house, in the back of the property and on the sides, gently protecting the house from storms that might roll in. This provides shade and a tranquil environment to the rear of the house, which has a small deck to enjoy coffee in the morning sun or BBQ any time on the new Blackstone propane grill.
The house has 2 additional bedrooms that have a forest view and a peak ocean view south while gazing from the window. The new guest bathroom has a tile walk-in shower and a “sea glass” vanity top as a tribute to the local Glass Beach that has put Ft. Bragg on the map.
