We had a really nice stay at Backwoods Retreat. The property is private and beautiful. It is a great base camp for experiencing the activities in the New River Gorge area. There are several options like the New River Gorge National Park, NRG bridge, rafting, and fishing within a 20-25 minute drive. If you'd rather spend your time unwinding from the stress of daily life, you can stay at the property and enjoy the wildlife (lots of deer, turkeys, and songbirds), hike the trail up to the top of the ridge behind the house, or just relax on the porch or back yard.
The gravel road to get to the property is maybe a little longer than you expect, but it is well-maintained and no problem to drive. Mike and Deanna could not have been more gracious and helpful. Mike and his grandson provided minnows for fishing in the pond, which our 16 year old son really enjoyed. The wifi worked well and provided connectivity when we needed it.
Overall, we really enjoyed the stay and would recommend this to families or couples who need some time away from the daily grind or need a base camp while exploring the NRG area.
