Birch Creek House

The Birch Creek House is a 1900sqft, 3 bed, 3.5 bath house on 160 private acres 5 miles outside of the City of Escalante. The house is steps away from its name sake, the Birch Creek, which cascades down 2 waterfalls before joining with North Creek to form the Escalante River. The land borders Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. In addition to the double waterfall mentioned above, the property also features several pictographs, petroglyphs, cliff dwellings of past inhabitants.

Family summer vacation

The property was just perfect for our family. Excellent hiking in the area. This is a wonderful place to set up a basecamp for Escalante Staircase, Bryce Canyon and Capital Reef!

First of all, make sure your route does not take you on the 22 miles of unpaved road. It may be the ā€œshortestā€ route on paper, but the other driver beat us And didnā€™t have to endure that bumpiness. Plus no one was on the unpaved road so we were constantly worried that if something happened, weā€™d be stranded. The home is absolutely gorgeous. The bathrooms were incredible, the kitchen is just perfect. The waterfall was dried out so we were disappointed by that. And the culinary water tastes and smells terrible. Itā€™s just iron so the hosts said itā€™s harmless, but we still had to go into town to fill our water bottles since 3 of the 5 adults couldnā€™t handle the taste or smell. The leather chairs do fold out into proper beds, but I had to text the hosts to get the YouTube link since it wasnā€™t in the instructions. We think we finally figured out the oven, but it took double the time to cook something. Maybe a binder with sheeted pages explaining certain things would help. The QR code we scanned didnā€™t have these instructions. Finally, Iā€™d say this home really is better for 8-10 people, not 12. Those leather chairs that fold out into small beds arenā€™t too comfy and in one room, thereā€™s barely enough room to fold it out. So counting them as single beds is a stretch in my opinion. Also, the tv is placed so that a group of 10 couldnā€™t even watch a movie together and the instructions do say not to move any furniture because it will ruin the cement coating. So not large group friendly.

Amazing location on a historical, family-run property.

Our multi-generational family ages 73 down to 2 enjoyed this property, and we especially enjoyed getting to meet the ownersā€™ mom, who also owns a bed and breakfast up the hill. We met Joette-Marie as we were walking up the hill to find petroglyphs and pictographs located on the property, and she graciously showed us a historical display and told us all about the archeological dig that was done on this location. There is quite this history just on this property alone. Beds were extremely comfortable, necessities like paper towels, shampoo and conditioner were stocked, and 2 washers and driers were a bonus! We especially enjoyed a dinner at home on the back patio and seeing the stars.Check out was a breeze, and you donā€™t have a mile-long list of items you must do to check out like other rental units. Owners were very responsive to any questions we had about the property or surrounding area in advance and while we were there. Weā€™ve marked this location as a place we would like to return one day and will tell others about!

Roomy and fun!

This house was just right. We felt like we were out in nature and yet Escalante was nearby for a convenient place to get food. It was clean, roomy, and very modern feeling. We really had a very fun time staying there. Also 2 washers and dryers were a big help with our large group.

Perfect hub for Adventures

Beautiful House but we were disappointed that it was a bit dirty... However, owner was very responsive and sent out to clean it immediately. The other issue was the "queen bed" in one of the guest rooms, it was actually two twin mattresses put together and it was super uncomfortable for one of the couple's to sleep in.

Beautiful place to relax and explore

We were a group of 9 adults (all over 50 years old) staying at this gorgeous open-concept home in a very special location. Took our breath away the minute we set foot in the space. We all had a fabulous time and found the space conducive to our large group. We appreciated the bathroom supplies, the laundry access, outside stove, fabulous kitchen island, and overall location. We'd say it sleeps two couples comfortably (and those beds are very comfortable) and 4 kiddos sharing a room. The couches can also serve as beds, and there are plenty of linens to do so. We couldn't get a decent sleep on the other foldout lounges. Suggestion to anyone is to be ready to start your day at daybreak or bring eye shades: the picture windows are fabulous - amazing views of night skies and sunrises, but they are uncovered. Bathrooms - great! Kitchen amenities good. Overall, really enjoyable, and communication with owners was super easy.

Great Stay! Scenic Views

We enjoyed the heck out of the Birch Creek House. We chose the Birch Creek House as base camp to enjoy the evening at while visiting Bryce Canyon and Captial Reef during the day. Location was excellent! Wish we could have stayed just a few more days to enjoy just the house itself. Design and Layout was fantastic. We will be back at some point and recommend the Birch Creek House to be your next place to stay!

Modern house close to Escalante town

This house is architecturally very interesting - high ceilings, concrete floors. Minimalist in decor. High end appliances, sheets, pillows. We were there when the temperatures at night dropped into the 40's and the floors and large bathrooms felt cold. There is a gas firepit outside which was a nice feature but provided no heat. A stream runs by the property- a nice feature- but also a major road, Hwy. 12, does too. You cannot hear the traffic inside but does distract from the outdoor ambiance. The kitchen has all the utensils, dinnerware, pots and pans you could when the temperatures at night dropped into the 40's and the floors and large bathrooms felt cold. There was nothing in the kitchen in the way of napkins, storage bags or foil or things like that. No basics like sugar, salt, etc. so you need to bring everything you need.There is no cabinet space for your items.The house is set off by itself so lots of privacy. It is near a pretty good restaurant.The hosts were very responsible when we needed help with the fire pit operation and when electricity went out over the whole town.

We stayed three nights and loved the property. We were active during the days hiking and exploring the area and loved to come home to a beautiful property to relax and cook dinner in the state of the art kitchen and enjoy the outdoor fire pit at night. The property is well situated close to town and National and state parks! We highly recommend this VRBO!

The property worked very well for a group of friends. Large central room and kitchen. Each bedroom has its own bathroom. All of cooking and eating gear you could need. Remember to bring your own coffee, sugar, tea etc.

Love this house SO much!!

I almost wished there weren't so many amazing places to visit near Birch Creek House! I loved it at first sight and wanted to live there more each day ..... just reading in the hanging chairs all day and sitting by the gas fire all night. Every single thing is first class and the setting is perfect. The only thing we wished for was a few reading lamps inside and more places to hang clothes and towels. (I promised my friend I'd mention that but don't hesitate to stay in this house .... close to so much natural beauty .... you can find a spot for your towels and clothes!)

Great Stay

Mix of family members meeting here and using for a launching point to Bryce Canyon NP. Worked great. The house is well stocked with everything you'll need to make your stay a pleasurable one. They have a long list of rules, but when you think about it, they're all reasonable. And anyone who thinks otherwise is probably not too keen on keeping their own things nice. The owners have gone out of their way to do everything they can to make this place feel comfortable and practical. Well, if you don't mind driving. It's not exactly in suburbia, but if you're looking here, then that's probably what you're after and is actually a part of the appeal. I took a couple walks in the morning down the dirt roads just because I could. Well worth the time to do so. Be sure to check out the waterfall by the entry road in the morning for the best pictures. One last note, on your way in or out, be sure to drive Hwy 12 (in the daylight hours). It truly is a scenic road and could well be a destination in itself. Thank you Rex's for allowing us to have a great stay.

Great Jump Off Point

We spent three nights at the house. The house was clean and comfortable. It was nice that each bedroom had its own bathroom, and having two sets of washers and dryers made it easy to wash clothes from our previous hikes at zion. The creek was so much fun for our kids to play in and provided relaxing background to morning coffee. This was a great jumping off point for continuing to explore Utah. From the house, we did a day trip to Capital Reef (about an hour and a half drive or so), Bryce Canyon (about an hour drive), and had a day in Escalante relaxing and going to the nearby state park to rent paddle boards.

Oasis in the desert

We loved staying at this property. The home was very clean. Our son was in heaven playing in the private stream on the side of the property. A little star gazing proved to be more stars than Iā€™ve seen in a long time.
