The Murrayfield Hotel is the gem of Edinburgh. I had the pleasure of staying 4 nights. It’s a quick bus ride to Edinburgh Castle. In a great old neighbourhood of Edinburgh with excellent local shops, a few restaurants and cafes nearby.
The room. My room had very high ceilings with the original plaster work. The hotel is a collection of beautiful heritage stone mansions. The room had been recently renovated with very nice furniture, TV and a comfortable big bed. The bathroom again recently renovated, excellent shower with real water pressure!
The food. The Hotel has a restaurant and bar attached called the Bothy. I had with the insistence of a member of staff the Scottish breakfast, lovely. I also had one night the Bothy burger. The restaurant and bar have a great atmosphere, great fire place too.
The staff. As well a giving great food recommendations and good conversation, they were especially excellent during a storm! Due to the great storm many guests were left stranded with cancelled flights, roads closed and a red warning Scotland wide, 114 mph winds! Although clearly stressful and a bit of a handful organising rooms and new/ canceled booking for reception it was all handled very well. The night before the storm I was setup and booked in for an additional night (extra charge, but very reasonable) with no issues. I didn’t need to move rooms. During the storm they were excellent too, putting the safety and comfort of guests as the first priority. 10/10.
