My family and I spent a number of days at White Oak Farm, a time in our lives that I'll remember forever. Mornings in the sunroom, the yellow light flooding in, drinking coffee and looking out on restored barns and well tended fields...afternoon walks over the rolling land...rainy days with everybody snug in a bedroom reading. There's enough space in the house to hide away by yourself, and enough space to gather. The interiors are beautiful and traditional, with wide pine board floors, exposed wood ceiling beams, and an elegant polished balustrade wrapping around the front staircase. Art rather than decoration hangs on the walls. Everything about White Oak Farm is tasteful, including its picturesque land and its comfortable distance from neighboring farms. The kitchen has a gas stove, lots of equipment, and a walk-in pantry with built-in cupboards. On the WiFi network our family members worked, watched movies, and played games on their devices. To shop you can take a gorgeous little drive to Greenwich, Bennington, or Hoosick Falls. We had everything we wanted or needed here.
And in this beautiful place my family felt taken care of. Connie was available whenever we had questions, and she gave us good suggestions for sightseeing and shopping. On our arrival, Chad (the farm's caretaker) helped us get to know the house and its workings. As the weather warmed, he put in window screens, mowed grass, and set up the outdoor grill on the patio.
My wife's favorite things: The well stocked kitchen; the grounds and the hiking trail in the woods; and Connie's management of the rental and her tips and suggestions for enjoying our stay.
My kids' favorite things: The sunsets. The walk-in pantry full of snacks. Their bedroom; the two living rooms. "Whenever you want to get exercise, you can pick a direction and start walking."
My favorite thing: On a number of nights, falling asleep to the sound of a Great Horned Owl calling from nearby woods.
