This charming, one of a kind Duluth stay has history, vintage appeal, updated amenities, and one helluva story! If you are looking for a unique beach escape in Duluth, MN, this is it - and only a Ā½ mile walk to Canal Park, the Lift Bridge, restaurants, and attractions. It is the one and only Train Car stay in Duluth!! It will delight history buffs, Harry Potter fans, couples, and families alike. Best of all, the Train Car Retreat is across the street from the best Public Beach Access on Park Point, with 7 miles of white sand beach, and shares the corner with a playground and picnic area. This unique home started its life as a passenger car on Park Point and dates back to the 1920's-30's when the the road replaced the tracks.You can enjoy touches of original woodwork, windows, and hardware from the train car which makes up the living room and Sleeping Car bedroom. The Train Car Retreat is filled with vintage, and custom furniture, local art, and creatively restored train elements. There is an updated, fully equipped kitchen addition with heated floors and patio access. A remodeled bathroom with heated floors and an enormous walk in shower. Upstairs, a master bedroom with king size custom made bed, and matching archway restoration creates privacy in the main level Sleeping Car, with a queen size, old-school murphy bed. All created by local craftsman Alan Jensen.
This location gives you a chance to observe the ā€œworking harborā€ with the Army Corps of Engineers, Coast Guard, shipping traffic, and the Bridge all contributing to the authentic soundscape of Duluth. Don't be surprised to hear Revelry in the mornings - or Coast Guard announcements over the PA, or be treated to the Lake bound vessels saluting the Lift Bridge on its way out of Duluth's safe harbor in the summer months. You are getting front row orchestra seats for Park Point life! During the busy summer boat traffic months, you will be what locals call "Bridged". This can take anywhere from 5-25 mins. Enjoy watching the big boats passing by!

Would not rent again. Smelled old. Floors uneven. Steps coming down from primary. Are steep and anyone tall hit their head going down to the bathroom at night. Not recommended with any one with mobility concerns. Kitchen stocked, bathroom nice and walking distance to beach access.

Great property in a super location

The Train Car is adorable inside with lovely furnishings and everything you need for a comfortable stay. Plus side is that itā€™s a short walk to the Lift Bridge, making Canal Park on one side and Point Place on the other super close. We walked to the Festival of Sail and drove a short distance to walk along the beach.

Cute and unique place

It was the perfect size for the four of us to have a couple days away together. My teenagers thought the bunk beds were very comfortable and they appreciated the reading lights and plugs next to their beds!

Perfect place for our weekend!

Amazing location, perfect set up for our mix of family coming together. Great kitchen set up, nice bath/shower/products/and so many towels! Comfy beds, ample bedding. It was just what we needed. And clean...YAY!!!

Family Getaway to Beaches of Lake Superior

Excellent location just across the street from Public Beach access. Clean house with great bunk beds for kids in their own bedroom. Kids enjoyed the train theme of the main section of house. Easy 10 min walk into Canal District or an easy 2 min drive. Could benefit from some landscaping and general weed control in the backyard as well as a water spigot out back to wash off sand. Overall it was an excellent stay and weā€™d definitely come back again.

Awesome place in Nisswa

This is an awesome house and a great place to stay in Nisswa. Itā€™s got plenty of space. Itā€™s clean and well maintained. Our favorite was the game room with darts and a pool table and more.

Park point stay

Location of the property was great,close to canal park and right across the street from beach access. The downfalls- upstairs master bedroom is really bright in the morning if you are sensitive to light when sleeping. There was also no central AC in the cabin and we were there over a couple really hot days. Just a window cooling unit in master bedroom upstairs.

It is such a quaint place. It has a great location to get to all the great Duluth hot spots! We cooked most our meals and the kitchen was so well equipped. We really enjoyed our stay.

Marathon Weekend

It is a lovely spot on park point where you can walk across the bridge to Canal Park and very close to Park Point beach. Itā€™s very charming with surprisingly more room than you think. We loved our comfortable stay at such a one of a kind place and highly recommend it for those visiting the Duluth area!

Scenic and beautiful

Overall, I liked this location and would stay again. The beds were comfortable and general cleanliness was great and the kitchen well equippedā€”the one hiccup was that the cleaners had overlooked changing sheets on one of the bunk beds. The place had a washer and dryer with detergent supplied, so taking care of that was pretty easy, and otherwise everything was great so I think that was a fluke. I also appreciated that the host did not expect us to do a ton of cleaning before we left like another place we stayed. Overall an easy and pleasant experience and driving over the lift bridge was really fun! Location is very accessible to the beach of Superior and to Canal Park šŸ˜

Perfect getaway

Super fun to be right by the working harbor and the beach! Relatively low scent environment if you byo soaps. Loved the Murphy bed! Super convenient location for all our trip goals. Very functional kitchen!! A+ all around.
