Daintree Secrets is a totally unique property set on four hectares of rainforest and tropical gardens with an open plan three bedroom, two bathroom house, set in the tree-tops, over the only permanently running stream in the oldest living rainforest in the world, the Heritage Listed Daintree Rainforest.
This Eco Certified property has for your enjoyment a large veranda which looks directly over your own private swimming hole waterfalls! The stream and rainforest curve around the verandah offering over 180 degree views into the tree-tops and along our crystal clear mountain stream.
It is the perfect place for outdoor dining (seats eight) and has a Weber barbecue and a Love Swing for the best views of the waterfalls.
You don't have to move from the verandah to be immersed in the rainforest. You'll see birds and butterflies flitting through the tree-tops and flying up and down our stream. Our resident turtle Thomas lives in his own small pond right below the deck of the verandah and he doesn't mind if a bit of breakfast goes over the side. The swimming hole is teeming with Jungle Perch and cute little catfish. Eastern Water Dragons and Boyds Forest Dragon can be seen along the trunk of trees or sunning themselves on the rocks.
It's also the perfect place to watch the kids who never want to get out of the swimming hole.
The house is fully furnished with three bedrooms. Two have luxury King size beds and the third bedroom has a Queen bed and a long Single bed, to accommodate even tall guests. All linen is provided, including large towels for swimming in the clear mountain stream. We update our linen every year.
The two luxurious bathrooms are modern and new.
The kitchen is fully equipped and includes a full sized fridge/freezer that easily copes with food and drinks for a party of 7 people. We provide an 80 litre esky (fibreglass cooler) in case you need extra drink space!
You will have everything you need to cook up a storm and we keep the fridge and pantry stocked with all sorts of basics, including plenty of Daintree tea, filter coffee, sugar, EV olive oil, balsamic and white vinegar, Himalayan salt and pepper grinders, tomato/barbecue and chilli sauces, jams, Vegemite and more.
The house has a large day bed perfect for afternoon siestas, a TV monitor, DVD and CD player along with a library of DVD’s and CD’s for your enjoyment. There is also a selection of books and games.
However, there is no Cable Television or Internet, one of the joys of this pristine paradise. Kids forget about their devices with so much to do at Daintree Secrets! They love the swimming hole teeming with jungle perch and exploring the rainforest.
There is a second shallow, sandy pool perfect for toddlers and those that don't like the deep water. We even provide pool toys to keep them entertained.
For those that want to get active we have a large, flat lawn which is perfect for a game of cricket or kicking a ball around. This area is perfect for stargazing and checking out the Milky Way at night. With no electricity north of the Daintree River, the night sky is spectacular!
For the yogis visiting, we have multiple unique places around the property with views of the stream or the forest, perfect for some quiet meditation. We even provide yoga mats! There is nothing quite like mediating in the rainforest with the soundtrack of the waterfalls, birds and cicadas.
Activities in this area are plentiful and we are centrally located and close to all the tourist attractions in the Daintree as well as cafes and restaurants.
Activities include gentle walks (the beach is 5 mins. away), hiking, guided nature trails, crocodile tours (yes you will see crocodiles on the tours- but not at Secrets) , swimming, sailing, snorkeling, reef fishing , jungle top zip lining , horse rides on the beach and much more.
I'm very happy to help with recommendations and information on the best tours, where to eat etc and I send detailed information to my guests when they book their Daintree Secrets holiday.
Most people say their favourite activity was spending a day lazing around the swimming hole at Daintree Secrets on the luxury double bean bags, watching the waterfalls and Ulysses butterflies fly up and down our stream.
With so much to see and do in the area, you really need three nights and all of guest reviews include that they wished they had stayed longer. We provide washing machines and dryers to help with longer stays.
Whilst Daintree Secrets is the perfect holiday destination for families, it is also one of the most romantic places for a couples retreat, intimate weddings, elopements and we have lots of honey-mooners and those returning for anniversaries.
Immersed in nature, you can truly forget that the rest of the world exits in this rainforest paradise. Just re-connect with yourself and your loved ones.
The trip from Cairns is an exceptionally scenic two hour drive. The road travels through cane fields, with dramatic mountain back-drops heavy with clouds and waterfalls. It then turns coastal and literally hugs the coastline with spectacular vistas of the Pacific Ocean.
Once you cross the vehicular ferry across the mighty Daintree River, you find yourself in the rainforest. The road winds through a thick canopy of tree-ferns, palms and the majestic king fern - the largest in the world. Keep your eye out for Cassowaries as they are frequently sighted along this road.
You do not need a 4wd vehicle, any regular hire car is sufficient to get around and see most of the Daintree and it's attractions. We guarantee that your favourite part of the Daintree will be your own private waterfall sanctuary at Daintree Secrets!
We really have tried to think of everything you may need or want to make your stay at Daintree Secrets memorable. So many of guest reviews say this is their favourite place to stay for a holiday and we have lots of repeat guests, which shows we must be getting it right.
As much as we want our guest experiences to be second to none, we knew that we personally wanted to ensure that our ecological footprint and that of our guests was minimal, and nil wherever possible.
To achieve this we embarked upon the Ecotourism certification process to ensure that we were 100% on the right track when it came to sustainable practices and to help us to improve any areas that were lacking or needed attention. Going through this certification process has cemented our understanding of and commitment to sustainable operations.
By achieving Ecotourism Australia Certification status Daintree Secrets joins fellow exemplary operators in terms of sustainability and provision of authentic, high-quality nature-based tourism experiences.
To achieve a minimal eco-foorprint, Daintree Secrets is powered by hydro-electricity, solar power and gas for hot water and cooking. We do have a back-up generator in case these fail as there is no electricity north of the Daintree River.
To help conserve energy, all of our appliances are energy saving. We ask that you leave high energy requiring appliances, such as hairdryers at home.
Our water comes from the crystal clear mountain stream flowing from Thornton Peak above us. This is the third highest mountain in Queensland where the air and the water are pristine.
All of our guest products and cleaning products are eco-friendly and we ask that you refrain from bringing harmful chemicals and single use plastic- including disposable plastic water bottles with you to the Daintree.
Thank you for helping us to achieve these eco-goals.
We really look forward to having you stay at our beautiful and unique property and enjoying everything that this pristine part of Australia has to offer.
Feel free to email or call me with any questions at all. I am very happy to help.
Kindest regards Katherine and Mark
