During my stay at the 73 Boutique Hotel, I encountered a serious hygiene issue: a significant number of ants were present in the room, on the floor and even on the bed while I was sleeping. I promptly informed the receptionist, who was very courteous and documented the situation with a video, as did I. Given that I paid €748 for two nights, I expected a flawless experience and thus requested a full refund, explicitly stating I was not interested in future stay discounts or vouchers.
The hotel acknowledged the issue and explained it as potentially due to the room’s ground-floor location near a green area. They stated their cleaning protocols were followed and offered, as compensation: complimentary minibar usage, an aperitif, and a 20% voucher for a future stay. However, they refused the full refund, claiming the incident was isolated and the overall service was rendered.
In my reply, I clarified that windows and doors were never opened due to extreme heat. I did not use the aperitif, and the minibar cost (€7) was waived by the receptionist against my offer to pay. I will not be returning, so the voucher is useless. Whether the incident was rare is irrelevant; it occurred during my stay and caused significant discomfort. The hotel’s response, in my view, fails to reflect the severity of the issue or the price paid.
