Stabiuzzo is a country with an ancient and very rich historical and archaeological tradition. The name derives from the Latin word «Stabulum», which means a resting place for the ancient Romans, who were always stationed along the ancient consular roads: in Stabiuzzo, the station was along the Roman Postumia (coming from Genoa to Aquileia) which passed to the border with Roncadelle. The Romans established their own "stabula" every sixty kilometers: they were armed guard places.
The Via Postumia passed the Piave in Traghetto and led to Oderzo. In fact, Stabiuzzo is rich in archaeological and historical resources, which must be safeguarded and re-evaluated. The stone steps of Roman origin still exist today in Traghetto, which served as landing places for the rafts that crossed the Piave.
In addition there are the remains of the supporting poles of the structure of the ancient ferry, where people passed for wading the river. In addition to the tangible Roman testimonies, during the First World War, there was the headquarters of the command of the Austro-Hungarian army that occupied all of the left Piave, until the Bersaglieri broke through the first line precisely in Madorbo, to lend support to the British who attacked along the Grave di Papadopoli. It was the beginning of the end for the Austro-Hungarian army that however left many testimonies in the territory: in Madorbo there is a trench and along the embankment a hydrometer emerges to measure the depth of the waters of the Piave. There are also remains of Austro-Hungarian boats ».
