This is a beautiful apartment in a residential neighborhood away from the hustle and bustle of downtown.
That said, despite VRBO listing the check-in time as 1:30, we could not get into the apartment until almost 4 (though the host did let us stash our suitcases while it was being cleaned which was very helpful).
When we got into the apartment, one of the bedrooms (the single) and a bathroom were locked. I asked for them to be unlocked because the apartment was listed as 3 bedroom/ 3 bathroom, and that’s what we had rented - and the host was very unhappy about it, though he did ultimately open up the rooms. And good thing, too, because two of the showers did not drain well, so we all used the third shower instead.
But again, the apartment is comfortable and sophisticatedly renovated and appointed. Lovely old world charm. With 3 bedrooms, however, it’s clear the living room was converted into a bedroom and the only place to really hang out was in the kitchen. But that was fine.
It’s in a bit of a gritty neighborhood - though we never felt unsafe - and about 0.5 mile from almost everything, so it was a short walk to see the wonderful sites of Catania.
As others have noted, it’s on the second floor, so there are steep stairs, and the first level without a hand rail. And the stairwell is dark - we could not find the light switch at night when we got home.
