Palm House accommodations
Palm House is appointed with mid-century modern furnishings that are in harmony with its architectural structure. This home is an original. Built with solid brick walls inside and out, it features the original mid-century tile work Terrazzo flooring and solid wood beams from its original design. This home has been treasured by all of those who have enjoyed the amazing and unique space. Palm House's original design was very modern for the 1950s and today its lines are still considered classic. The attention to detail will not go unnoticed.
The Space
The upstairs suite features large windows across the back of the home with views of the tree canopy and the lush garden back courtyard. You can stay in the the expansive double Queen Master Suite with private bath, and private bathroom, sitting area with velvet sofa smart Tv and dedicated work space, private breakfast and coffee bar in the upstairs office suite. You can enjoy having the entire upstairs all to yourself for privacy, peace, and tranquility.
Downstairs you will find your King master suite that is cozy and comfortable. This Suite has a private bathroom with tub shower combo and calming sitting area.
Our lounge area, La Sala, features a fireplace with inviting velvet sofas, sitting areas and a work space with tables and chairs so that you can get a little work done while enjoying your coffee. Curl up in a comfy chair with your latest book or just take in the peaceful and serene view of the beautiful back garden through the glass walls. A queen size Murphy bed and an air mattress come with this space.
And last but not least you can soak all your troubles away and relax in the beautiful hot tub nestled away in a private area of the back courtyard.

This historic home at 2000 Palm Blvd in the historic district Brownsville TX . The Palm House was built in 1950 by a local doctor and his wife and has been passed down through generations until now. In 2020 the Whittington family of South Padre Island aquired the home and are now opening it to vacationers who are visiting Brownsville. Palm House hosts University students and families for various year round University events and we also host people getting away for the weekend in Historic downtown Brownsville.
Things to do in downtown Brownsville… come enjoy our rich culture and history; try the new and hip new places that are easy to find, attend one or our many festivals like the Historic Charro Days festival, Crossroads Festival or the annual Latin Jazz Festival. The University has many event throughout the year. First Friday is a night of art, live music, and more in Market Square every first Friday of the month. You can take a salsa dance class, go on a historic downtown Brownsville walking tour, tour the historic and very interesting City Cemetery. Go to Historic happy hour and learn about the days of Davy Crockett in Old Town Brownsville back in the day.
About downtown Brownsville and the historic district. Enjoy a short walk down Palm Boulevard to local restaurants. If you're craving Italian, try La Scala where you can bring your own wine; Lola's Bistro for delicious American food with an inviting back patio overlooking one of Brownsville's many resacas; and Spanky's Hamburgers or Rutledge Burger Joint for a casual meal. We're just blocks from the historic downtown Brownsville that features nightlife with live music and great restaurants. Dodici is one the best spots for pizza featuring a classic brick pizza oven and a wonderful wine selection, definitely a must! Enjoy one of Brownsville's up and coming restaurants like Las Ramblas, Terras Dodicci and more. The Library bar and the historic Palm Lounge bar and grill are great places to meet up with friends. From great coffee to great music, El Hueso de Fraile is an artsy find. Browse around downtown, take a bike ride, do some shopping in the funky downtown shopping district. For the college and millenial crowd, go-to restaurants like Wingstop, Subway and the Bento Box are just next door to our beautiful new downtown transit station. The University of Texas RGV is 5 minutes away and it is a wonderful place to ride bikes or just walk along the resaca. Take in a movie or visit the Camille Playhouse for one of their amazing live theater productions in this vintage theatre. Gladys Porter Zoo is 10 minutes walking or two minutes by car. Linear Park features a fabulous Farmers Market on Saturday mornings. For something fun, the 7th and Park Coffee Shop offers snacks and bicycling. If you're here on a Monday evening, you might want to grab one of our bicycles and meet there for the 6:30 Mello Monday bike ride with local bikers.For the serious bike rider there are great hike and bike trails throughout Brownsville. One that is close by will take you all the way North to Palo Alto Battlefield State Park. For fine dining we recommend Madeira, Toscafino's, La Pampa and, of course, Dodici as mentioned before.
