Beachfront Sunsets on the Water at Oakwood Beach

You’ll instantly relax when you arrive at this private beachfront home on the beautiful Delaware River (2020 River of the year!). This hidden gem is off the beaten path, making it perfect for you to escape the hustle and bustle of your busy day-to-day. You’ll love the amazing sunsets and water fun — walk out the backdoor directly onto the large deck and sandy beach.

Message us for information about the local wineries and distilleries or for kayaking!
The space:

The home has 4 bedrooms and 2.5 baths including a first floor, large bedroom with ensuite.

Easy access road with little traffic. Parking for 5 cars (1 in front driveway, 4 in our private parking across the street). Sleeps 11 with 6 beds (3 convertibles).

Walk out the door and onto the quiet beach, sit by the water, walk along the shore, go for a swim or enjoy water activities you love!

Salem County is a rural agricultural area, not your typical Jersey shore experience. There aren’t bars or many stores, but you’ll see plenty of farm stands on your way to town filled with Jersey produce.

Most residents live on this is quiet beach year-round, so please be respectful, especially with your noise level. No parties are permitted. Quiet hours 10pm-8am.

Mid stay cleaning can be easily arranged per your preference. Please let us know.

The beach is beautiful and the water is great for swimming or water sports; however, there are no lifeguards: use of the beach and other outside areas are at renter's own risk (host is not responsible for any injury as such).

Note that there is a video doorbell and a security camera facing the back deck that record video when motion is detected 24/7.

There are noise monitor devices inside and outside of the property made by Minut. They only detect noise in decibels and do not record conversations

Pictures don't do it justice!
This house exceeded our expectations! From the pictures, we knew it would be beautiful, but once we got there it seemed so much bigger and brighter than what the pictures show. Its so light and airy and was perfect for what we came for. It was VERY clean, each bedroom came with towels and makeup wipes. You can tell the hosts put a lot of thought into this home. We went in the fall, but was still such a wonderful time walking along the quiet beach and having drinks on the patio. Would highly recommend going on the off season with friends or a couple!

Wonderful, quiet, beachfront relaxation
I spent the past weekend at this fantastic, peaceful home and am planning on going back next year. Everything about the listing and the other reviews are spot on. Great views, well stocked kitchen, everything was clean, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom spotless, the TV nice and big! What I think is missing (or at least I missed them while reading about the home) are some details that were important to me. The outside table with the sectional sofa is actually a propane firepit - that was a very nice surprise. The bed had two types of pillows - foam and traditional for those who like one over the other. The bathroom was stocked with a few commonly forgotten necessities like toothbrushes and moisturizer. The kitchen has a Keurig for those who like pods and regular grounds for those who like drip. And there was a nice set of snack sized cookies, crackers, etc for those in need of a quick snack. One of my favorite VRBO's yet.

The house was truly amazing. Very clean and homely. The outside area was great, plenty of seating areas. The master bedroom and ensuite was really nice. The kitchen, well we wish we had that at our home! Sunsets were awesome. Truly an amazing place. Our only slightly negative comment is the water pressure from the faucet and master shower was really slow. But apart from that a fantastic and truly relaxing time. The house looks just like the pictures only better :) The owner has little personal touches everywhere, just like a home away from home.

A delightful experience with every need met in advance
We've stayed at dozens of vacation rentals, but usually, they're spartan - providing the essentials, but otherwise leaving it to us to provide everything. At this stay, it was clear the owners love this property and treat it like their second home. We were greeted with a spotless home and every possible amenity, including coffee, wine, music, ambiance, climate control, chargers, and more. It felt like being waited on by a butler who had anticipated our every need. Instructions were easy to follow and everything worked flawlessly. Had there been any problems, it was clear the owners were on-call to respond to our every need. We are picky people and this place suited us to a T. Thank you for creating this perfect refuge.

Wonderful Family Vacation
We had an excellent weekend. Beautiful view with the most beautiful sunrise and sunsets. The house was perfect, right on the beach, very clean and comfortable. So many extras such as coffee, snacks, towels, linens, toiletries and more. Fantastic outdoor amenities, such as fire pit, kayak/canoe, beach chairs and more. The host was wonderful, as well, kind and understanding. He was very accommodating to a personal request that we had. We had a wonderful weekend at this beautiful home. We would highly recommend this place and we would love to come back.

Not so far away stay vaca
Arriving there is a quiet neighborhood feel … and then there’s the back side … like a condo on the beach vibe . Beautiful sunrise and sunsets . The house was very updated and classy . House was comfortable for 8 adults and 3 small children . The host was Amazing always responding immediately to my every question and concerns.

Great House on Delaware River
This was the perfect house for 3 Dads and their 14-15 yr olds for a weekend lacrosse tournament. The house was clean and spacious. The owner went over and above to welcome us and make us feel at home. The boys loved the kayaks, swimming and the beach. The Dads enjoyed the outdoor area, fire pit and grilling. All the beach supplies were on hand. Easy and quick communications with the owner.

Relaxing Vacation House
The location was great for us because it was relatively close to Newark, DE and Philadelphia. Water views were great from so much of the house and owners had thought of every possible touch to make people feel at home. There were plenty of outlets, chargers, TVs, tables & chairs, hooks in bathrooms, nightlights, etc. The fridge was free of all sorts of open condiments that are probably supposed to be helpful for guests but that drive my husband crazy as they've taken up half the fridge in the last couple of houses we've stayed in. It was too cold and windy for us to enjoy the outdoors while we were there but owners had flip-flops, towels, hats, bug spray, sunscreen etc in case people forget something. We would definitely stay here again.

A surprising gem of a house and location
This exceeded our expectations in every way. A beautiful view, a well=appointed house, and a lovely location. This stretch of beach on the Delaware River is one of NJ's best kept secrets, so it's with a heavy heart that I give such an enthusiastic review. The eight of us could not have had a better stay here over a sunny Thanksgiving week.

Best Sunsets
The home owners did a great job of having everything you would need for stay at the beach. The beach was quiet and accessible from the back yard. There was a spot in the house for every family member to hang out and enjoy time relaxing. The sunsets were just stunning. Great panaramic view from the living room.

Beach front and beautiful home!
We were very impressed with this property and had a wonderful stay! The house is clean, updated, open floor plan and lovely and you step right out onto a private deck and beach. Water was calm for the kids to play in and when they needed a break it was just steps back to the house. For being a beachfront property, it was actually quiet and secluded too, and for most of the week it was just our family playing on the beach or in the water. The owner supplied everything and was such a gracious host. Linens, regular towels, beach towels, water shoes, flip flops, kayak, paddle board, beach toys, umbrellas, beach chairs, toiletries, care package, etc were all provided! The house was very well stocked as well! We were so happy with the house!!! Not as much to do in the nearby area but if you are looking to just stay on the beach then it’s perfect!

Amazing view! Beautiful home!
We had a girls weekend here & it was fabulous! Very clean, spacious, comfortable home. Watched the sunset every evening. Owner supplied lots of snacks, every bathroom/toiletry imaginable, flip flops, plenty of towels & outdoor & beach chairs. Comfortable beds, plenty of bath towels. All in all a perfect stay. Owner very responsive to questions. Very private for beach home. Highly recommend!

Wonderful Weekend Getaway
A perfect spot to celebrate a family birthday.... convienent for our kids who were coming from DC and PA. The house was perfect, right on the beach and had all of the amenities we could want. Highly recommend this lovely home.

Plenty of space, lots of amenities, great view!
We were in town for a quick weekend and wanted a comfortable place to stay with our kids 17, 10, 8 & 9 mths. The house has plenty of room to stretch out. Kitchen was well stocked with pans, dishes, measuring cups etc. We took advantage of the pack n play and tub for the baby. Loved having the full laundry too. Wished we could have stayed longer!

Girls' Trip
What a gem of a property and location. Located right on the Delaware river, you can relax and enjoy the beautiful sunsets sitting on the large deck that overlooks the water. This property is decorated beautifully with the comfort of their guests in mind. Everything you could possibly need is already provided. Every detail is so well thought out - you need a throw blanket, it's there; forgot your beach towel, gotcha covered; need a hat, here you go; makeup remover, no problem. We enjoyed this little slice of heaven so close to home. We will definitely book again for another girl's trip.

Perfect Fall weather for a riverside vacation
We found the riverside cottage to be spotless, recently renovated, with every amenity. The deck is the place to soak up the sun and views. Our two generations had plenty of space to spread out when we wanted privacy. A+

Perfect family get-away
We totally enjoyed our stay at this lovely house- lots of thoughtful touches tucked in to an already super comfortable place. We felt at home right away. The kitchen is very well stocked, large and accommodating! Everyone slept well - all the beds are comfortable, the ac was quiet and worked perfectly, linens were clean and fresh smelling. The sunsets over the river are just gorgeous and can be enjoyed from a living room with one wall of sliders or from the large deck with really comfy furniture, table and chairs. Our family especially enjoyed watching the ships and smaller boats. You can see all the way to the C&D Canal!! There’s a 2 person kayak, an SUP, rafts and sand toys, even beach shoes in various sizes and sunscreen! We had a great time, made lots of memories. We love the bright PEACE flag out front! We highly recommend- and would love to come back! Thank you for sharing your happy place! -

Home away from home
Wow! What an experience we had. First of all, house is fully stocked… from bandages to extra flip flops for the family. Second, The rooms were comfortable, kitchen is spacious, 2nd dining area facing the water. Third, the deck/patio in the back was a great place to relax (have a bbq), kids go swimming and play with the sand, and a few steps away from the house! It was super convenient. Lastly, the view of the sunset… absolutely gorgeous. Looking at the sun directly without squinting your eyes because it’s orange and the multicolored sky… you don’t see that everyday. Overall, great experience. Definitely want to come back here to vacation again.

The best waterview place in South Jersey for my family"s special needs
Very clean and comfortable. Detailed info about the house (e.g. what to do if you set off the smoke alarm) and the community--- restaurants, location /phone # of nearest hospital etc. sent in advance and repeated in a binder in the house. We only needed to communicate with Mr Bame about when to turn on the AC. Our stay was May 9 to 13. Previous week had cold nights . Heat still on. As the weather warmed we finally asked for the AC for the last evening and it came on very quickly after our ask by text. Sunsets were gorgeous. especially the first 2 nights. We were blessed with great weather. River probably still too cold for swimming but we did not plan to swim.. We did enjoy a lot of time on the deck and the more able bodied among us took walks or runs on the beach. Why we chose 53 S Locust: Although Mr. Bame- rightfully- does not advertise this house as wheelchair accessible, it was the most nearly accessible of any affordable rental water view place we could find. My brother and I looked at hundreds of VRBO and Airbnb listings on the NJ oceanfront and Long Beach Island, Egg Harbor and Tom's River etc. and could not find anything that met the needs or 1 fulltime wheelchair user and another using a rollator walker. There are some steps to enter the house. We had 2 abled bodied people carry the wheelchair and its occupant over the steps involved in entering through the door to the deck on the river side of the house. By using this entrance there was never more than one step at a time. Once inside, the house was wheelchair friendly on the first floor. The master bedroom with an "ensuite bath" with shower stall worked for us. Before booking I had inquired of Mr. Bame if the shower stall had a handheld shower attachment--- which is very helpful in assisting a wheelchair bound person in the shower. The online photo of the shower left this unclear. Mr. Bame promptly responded by adding this amenity. We did bring our own shower seat . We stayed 4nights and only left the property once. We went for dinner on Tuesday night at the Diamond Grillle which has a large selection of good food at what I would call "moderate" prices. However, the quantity of food was so abundant that we all needed take out boxes to carry back what we couldn't eat. We had enough leftovers for a second meal the next day thus making the Grille "cheap eats." If your family has a wheelchair user, please consider this location.
