Artemis house - its name taken after the ancient Greek goddess of the mountains and the forests - is a delightful stone cottage of unique character and architecture. Located at the foothills of the White Mountains it offers great mountain views and a good view to the renouned Georgioupolis beach.
This authentic village house has a very cosy interior made out of stone and wood in warm and fresh colours. The atmosphere of the house is very relaxing and the cypress trunks of the roof leave a fine nature smell. The floor is wooden in both levels of the house. The bedroom is in the upper level, providing a fine wooden double bed and offering a view to the valley and Georgioupolis beach. The beautiful kitchen and living room are in the main level. The shower and WC in playful colours are in the main level too. Wooden cupboards are spacious both in kitchen and bedroom.
The location is very quiet, at the outskirts of a small shepherds village called Melidoni. There are many interesting walks in the area, a gauge to visit, and of course more advanced walks up the mountain tops. Its an iseal place for nature lovers.
We offer tips, guidebooks and a detailed map with all the walks. And of course the district of Apokoronas where the house is located is famous for Aptera the archaelogical site, byzantine churches and monasteries, Kalyves sandy beaches, and traditional tavernas in picturesque villages of Vamos, Armeni, Stylos, Fres and others.
The house is located literally 30 minutes from Hania (medieval port and city) and 40 minutes from Rethymnon medieval city. The long beaches where mainstream tourism goes to are also 25 minutes away from this quiet retreat. So you are close to the main tourist attractions and scene yet in a unique tranquil place.
Most guests who have stayed in this house consider returning and some do so.
Besides the maps and guide books, in the house you will find some basic dairy products in the fridge (milk and local cheese), bread, thyme honey and olive oil.
We need to inform you of facts very few guests have been unncomfortable with:
1)To live in and explore the villages of Crete you need to have some basic driving experience of driving in narrow windy roads. New drivers should not gain this experiennce during their holidays in Crete but in easyer terrain else where.
2)To eat out you need to drive 4 km to the many good tavernas in the region. There is no taverna currently in the village .
3)To use the portable bbq there has to be no wind ( forestry department's rules).
4) there are fluctuations in water pressure in the region.
Bed linen are changed weekly while extra towels are stored inside the house for your convenience. The house is cleaned weekly.
