Take a 45 minute drive from your vacation rental to visit Old Man’s Cave, Cedar Falls, Ash Cave, Rock House, Conkle’s Hollow, or Rock Bridge located in Hocking Hills State Park. No matter the season, you and your guests won’t be disappointed when visiting all the beauty Hocking Hills offers!

Pine Lake retreat is located 7 miles from Athens and Ohio University. Perfect for families wanting to spend time with their students studying at OU. The nearby State Park offers over thousands of acres to explore by hiking, off-highway vehicle riding, mountain biking, or horseback riding. Guests will want to visit Athens and Ohio University or Nelsonville’s Historic Square Arts District, Stuart’s Opera House, Hocking Valley Scenic Railway, or the Nelsonville Music Festival that is held every year at Hocking College. If guests venture 1 mile to Lake Snowden you can enjoy the waterpark with family and friends. Lake Hope State Park located in Zaleski State Forest. Guests can enjoy some fine dining at Lake Hope Lodge or a day of picnicking and swimming with family and friends.

We rode motorcycles in from Maryland for a 4 day weekend. We found the rental to be perfect for our group. Plenty of room. Plenty of couches. A huge garage. And a coffee maker. We needed nothing else. It was great!!

The house was clean and in a beautiful setting. It was close to OU, which was the reason for our visit. The home definitely needs some TLC. Appliances, outlets, bathrooms, floors, window treatments all need love. This house could be incredible if it had money and love put into it.

Winter stay
We stayed 2 nights at the property during a visit to Ohio University. House was clean , welcoming. It was very cold so we did not try the hot tub or outdoor area but it looked nice and inviting. We had an issue with the lock box but were able to clear it up quickly with the property management . There are an abundance of light switches which made it a bit hard to find the right switch for that you wanted . Overall great stay and location

I don't have enough space to completely and accurately review. Will do my best. Both hot tubs were not usable. outside mechanical pump fail message and inside moldy smelling. The room itself was molded in many areas, broken glass around and above tub. Master had old broken blind, left open to every one. Roof began leaking while we were there- old evidence of roof issues. Switch's are very odd through the house and safety inspection should be done before any one stays. Internet wont run tvs most of the time and is not accurately listed. They know this but not honest, along with the bathrooms, there's 2 full one half. the 3rd is actually an extra shower directly in the master bath. We called and kindly tried to deal with things. Yes Christmas it was understandable. but they had time to properly clean the tub and address the other issues that had been on going previous to the stay. When technician didn't show up we lost a whole day for our outing after Christmas waiting. And by the end of it they refunded a total of $200. Seems like the easiest way to do it is the answer for them. The deck needs repair and painting, there's a few other issues. What is most upsetting is the lack of transparency and obvious neglect they have been getting away. The rental uses customer service stalling techniques and has poor communication (lack of folow up) I wouldn't trust them to rent again. $200 was barely even acknowledging the time wasted. We were looking for more than a place to sleep.

Great Get Away
This is the second year we have stayed at Pine Lake for our family vacation. We love this tranquil location and spent the entire week here with no need to leave. Swimming, canoeing, paddle boating, and fishing consumed our week. We only wish the wildlife viewing area that’s pictured on the website had been kept up. We found it in disrepair and we’re bummed. Wish the lighting around the lakes had been kept up along with the abandoned heart shaped pond with the fountain we found. We truly love this house and the memories we’ve made here over the past two years!

There were so many light switches that seemed to go to nothing. It would have been great to have lights out back on the deck. The hot tub jets would not run. The lake seems to be heavily fished because nothing but tiny fish were biting.

Bitter sweet experience.
Indoors: Clean and well equipped. We had everything we needed and plenty to do. Wall switches were a nightmare. A few beds were very hard and uncomfortable. Outdoors: Deck was unsafe. Needs boards replaced, ideally the deck should be replaced. Was not clear as to sharing deck, boats and games with neighbors. Neighbors had cages set up in pond to trap turtles. They caught one and took it to their unit to cook and eat. Gas grill is a fire hazard on the old rotting deck. We had a great family vacation in spite of minor issues. But, the listing should be more clear on sharing outdoor space your other rentals. Hopefully this review is taken as positive criticism to point out ways to enhance your rental.

The Internet didn’t work, the TVs weren’t set up properly, there weren’t any paper towels or basic necessities in the kitchen like coffee. A lot of things were broken and things smell bad. The owner was very rude when I contacted him about getting a discount because Internet didn’t work, a lot of light switches didn’t work and also the electric outlets didn’t work

A Memorable Stay with Potential for Improvement
I recently stayed at the charming Pine Lake property, which offered a beautiful location and cozy atmosphere. Despite some minor issues, the experience was overall enjoyable. The indoor hot tub wasn't heating up, but the host was responsive and attempted to address the issue. Unfortunately, it couldn't be fixed during our stay. The bedrooms were spacious, but two rooms had faint odors—one of cat urine and the other of cigarette smoke. A thorough cleaning or air purifiers may help resolve this for future guests. The property had an inviting campfire area, though we lacked tools to light it. Additionally, we noticed some disrepair, such as a broken window, and a sense that minor renovations were ongoing. In conclusion, Pine Lake was memorable and enjoyable despite the hiccups. With some improvements, the property has great potential for an outstanding guest experience.

Quirky, Eclectic and totally inviting!
This property was just what we needed. A family with my husband and myself, 4 adult children(+a girlfriend) and a grandmother; we could not have been happier. The house was warm and inviting as soon as we walked in. It’s very hard to find the house at night though. We were actually at one of the other houses starting to unpack the car before realizing it wasn’t the right place. . . Oops. There wasn’t walkway lighting (that we could find anyway) and I was a bit worried about my mom walking in. Yes there were many switches to figure out, but who doesn’t love a good puzzle? This home is comfortable. It’s not one of those homes where you are afraid to touch anything because it’ll break. It’s not in disrepair inside and I don’t want to give the wrong impression here but if you are used to staying in a VRBO you’ll know what I mean. This house has a “lived-in” feeling, as if you are visiting your own imperfect home. It’s not hugely fancy but it has comfortable furniture and amenities and is VERY clean. We didn’t get to enjoy the decks outside but we did sit in the outdoor hot-tub under a meteor shower and that was amazing.! We couldn’t figure out how to work the control panel on the outside tub. There seemed to be an error code but the water was warmer than the air so we didn’t mind. The inside hot-tub got hotter so we’d toggle back and forth. The way the house is set up, we were able to put all youngsters on one side of the house and the old folks on the other. The bathrooms are a bit strange as there are two showers and a toilet in one of the rooms. This made things a bit dicey for our only son when trying to get ready with his sisters(haha). The house was like a maze until you got used to it. My mom (who has Alzheimer’s) kept getting lost and confused as to where her bedroom was, but all in all it was the perfect place to relax after a long two days of funeral proceedings. Just what we were hoping for. Bonus: I had asked for there to be something special put in place for my mom (it was her mother that passed and she had never stayed at anything other than a hotel so she was very nervous). In one of the rooms was a personal condolence letter, a beautiful plant and some cupcakes. That was the personal touch that she needed to feel right at home. Of course she was a bit confused as to how they knew. . . Lol. Thank you Pine Retreat for such a beautiful experience with my family.

Stayed here for two nights with my son who was touring Ohio University. We both enjoyed it. Easy 12 minute drive to Athens. Clean, quite, relaxing place to stay. Well equipped with cleaning and cooking supplies.

Great Place to Stay!
This lake house had everything we needed for a great few days together as a family. There was plenty of room for 5 adults and 2 children with room to spare for more., The home was clean and well stocked with linens, paper products, and kitchen necessities. We enjoyed the paddle boats and canoe to cruise around the lake and enjoyed fishing off the dock. It was beautiful in the the mornings sitting outside on the back deck, looking out over the water, watching the sun come up with coffee in hand, and hearing the sounds of the birds chirping. We sat around the campfire every night with ample seating for all and enjoyed making s’mores. There was a ping pong table was fun for all too. The grandkids enjoyed the hot tubs and we all wished we had packed our suits after seeing them.--one indoor and one outdoors. We hated to leave and wished our stay could have been longer. There does need to be some repairs and updating to the back decks, a new picnic table, and more seating as this is the selling point of the house and where we spent a lot of our time. We all agreed we would stay there again.

Beautiful Lake View
Really nice place. Deck needs some work and the inside is a little time worn, but otherwise it's a great place. Liked having a laundry and dishwasher. Amazing amount of storage & closet space. First rental with bathrooms that have plenty of shelving. Beautiful lake view. Peacefull. We sat on the deck each evening watching the trees change color. Beds very comfortable. Slept verry well. The switches are weird. There is a switch for the dishwasher. Can't run the dishwasher until the switch is on. The lake fountain and deck light is on a switch in one of the bedrooms. Lots of switches. Many are marked. Many not. The paddle boats need cleaning. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay and given the opportunity, we'd stay again.

Peaceful and relaxing
Was just what we needed. Peaceful and relaxing short trip. Definitely bring food with you, the only local store was closed more often than open. Thankfully Lucky's pizza shop was just down the road, walking distance. House was beautiful. Decking and windows needs cleaned, and the hottub had a terrible musky smell. Wifi was very slow, we used our 5g over using their wifi. With that being said, was still a great relaxing time.
